that sounds like a good plan to me. I know the spirit of this ist just to swap stuff around with out worrying about price and stuff but like others i was just hesitant to post up some nicer tech with a 1 point system. Im looking forward to seeing how the new point system goes maby well get some new takers on the swap meet

I'm also intent on an idea of rating items for potential usefulness... i.e. there are way more socket 775 processors out there than the server socket 940. Which means if someone puts, say, a socket 940 opteron up without a board (it'd be very hard to find a socket 940 board), it may be worth less than a 775 p4 (even if it ends up being faster than that p4) depending on its speed (pretty much all 775 boards support p4 and 775 was one of the most common platforms)

Here is my take on this. If there were separate groups and points were awarded to that group only if you contributed items to it the system would be much more streamlined.

For example if everthing stayed the same, but a second tier was made for higher level components.

So maybe only items valued over $35-40 dollars were allowed in this tier, and points earned in this tier were worth 4 points if stepped down, but stepping up costs 5 or 6 points to earn 1. This way people who throw up a bunch of "junk"(used very loosely), cant then jump on a higher level graphics card/processor and take it away from someone who actually made a valuable contribution to the top tier items.

This system seems like it would end up being quite a bit easier to manage, and less people would feel like their higher end items were being taken by people who didnt do anything to earn them.

There should also be a max number of points to be earned from items that havent been claimed. This way you could have say 5 points from unclaimed items total, but if you had earned two points from items that were already shipped, then you could have 7 points total. These 5 points could only be reduced by someone claiming one of the items, and then you could throw up something else to max out those points again.

Do it on usefulness instead of age. a 10 year old case is just as useful as a new case.
Parts that aren't 64-bit or aren't Vista/7 compatible should be marked down as well. Parts that aren't compatible with XP... should be less than half a point.

The problem with the two-tiered system is dealing with stuff that's on the borderline. I for one do not want to be making determinations like that.

The max points from unclaimed items is a good idea, though. I think we might run with that....

I like the idea of max points for older tech untill claimed. Perhaps specially mark those components so that its easier for you guys to know what has and has not had points given to the poster.

Perhaps mark the ones pending points with a colored * or something in the spread sheet

Gotta remember, when a nice item gets like 5 credits, it would be hard for someone with like 1 to be able to get it, if he really needs it. He would have to offer 4 1 credit items, or two 2 credit items of his own just to get w/e it was he wanted. And then be ready for when people start knipping at them, all the shipping, etc.

I think 3 credits, and all the .5 dividends is perfect balance, mebbe even .25 to balance condition of the item. Not hard to get what you need, and get rid of what you don't, given the items are even worth it. And pictures need to be mandatory so credits can be adjusted for functionality, condition, etc. We got broken parts, semi-working parts, and nice clean stuff too.

I like the idea of the swap meet, glad I ran across it

Does a member get credit to spend for POSTING an item, or after its claimed, or after transaction is completed? What would make most sense?
