Crazy laptop temps!! - Page 2

Lol folding on my laptop results in a 95 degree stable CPU temp.
Gaming regularly keeps it above 80.

In summer, ambient is usually too warm to game unless aircon is on. Otherwise it goes over 110 and thermal shutdown occurs ^^

Laptop is 3 years old? and still working

So would re-thermal pasting it lower my temperature difference or would it be a waste of time?

Or from what y'all are saying... It seems like it is a waste of time worring about it and I just need to get over my mental block

probably not enough to mater.... give it a few days/weeks (depending on your usage) for the paste to set (even those that say they dont have a set time will) and see what you get. if your still not happy with your temps try again with different paste (AS5 or MX-3 are nice).

but again... its a laptop, temps are going to be high. and frankly... your temps are absolutely wonderful.....

my Toshiba would hit thermal shutdown (when gaming for LONG sessions wile overclocked) more often than i would like to remember before it got stolen

Ok... New reason on why I want to lower temps. I am trying to get it to reach 3.5ghz, but to do so, I would need to bump the voltage higher than I would feel at all comfortable with. Right now, I am at 3.325ghz at 1.275v. I want to get it higher, but it seems like I am reaching the point of: Increasing voltage makes my temperature go up, which needs an increase in voltage, which makes my temperature go up, which needs and increase in voltage.... You get the idea

As I said, I know the heatsink is up to the task, it's just that the temperature difference between the heatsink and cpu is pushing 30c now...

It's been about 2.5 weeks.

What is your reccomended thermal paste?
then its probably as stable as it will be (the paste that is)

i use Arctic Silver #5 on just about every thing. its not exactly "the best" but its cheap and it competes with every thing "better" only losing by 1 or 2 c most of the time...

as for the rest of your goal im pretty useless.... i wish i could be of more help...

Good luck though. 3.5 is impressive on a notebook

My Asus notebook runs hot too...that's just a tradeoff for portability. Since it is used for gaming and not carried often, I removed the bottom panel and used double sided tape to semi-permanently attach a notebook cooler. It helped, but I still see temps in the 60c range while gaming, even at stock clocks.

I wouldn't suggest overclocking a lappy unless you go crazy with aftermarket/custom cooling. The moderate gain in performance isn't worth the extreme increase in temps and the major hit to battery life IMO. They aren't meant to be beasts, they're meant to be portable. If you want big performance, build a desktop rig.

Ok. Thanks everybody.

I think I will order up some AS5, put it on, and see where it takes me

If you're into OC-ing why did you get a laptop? lol Even a small tower case will house crazy powerful things and still be portable for LAN's. . .

Unless you're gaming in a lecture at like university or something. . . . . .
