Regardless, 22n means less power, less heat, better OC.
Ivy Bridge is 22nm right?

Wow 22nm,"Moore" is about to put his boot in our Arsses

Yeah, I posted an article about that. The source of the claim was Fudzilla, so it's disputable at best, though I don't see why it wouldn't be able to run Ivy Bridge with a few updates.

So AMD will be not 2 but 3 years behind now?

And I thought it was just going to be a die shrink bringing 2 more cores and lower temps...
Isn't that kind of disappointing? Only a 20-30% increase over Sandy Bridge? And thats the rumors. Usually rumors are exaggerated. Without the OC a Sandy Bridge is basically a Phenom II. No?

hmm....

i'm building a new rig and i was going to use sandy bridge but if what you're saying is true isn't it better for me to go with a phenom II X4

Lol, with that being said I would go Sandy Bridge if I was building a new rig. They do overclock nicely, and are in a pretty nice price range. Thats why i specified "without the OC". That and they are new. And if I'm upgrading I always go with the newer technology even if its equal. IE: HD 6870 vs 5870. 5870 wins most of the one on one benchies but 6870 crossfires better and is newer. So even though you can find them for around the same price I'll probably go 6870.

Even 20% is a big jump from generation to generation.

No. Not even comparable.

Sandy Bridge is 10-20% faster than Bloomfield which was 10-50% faster than Core 2.

Phenom II is only marginally faster than Core 2 was. Core for core it cannot even remotely keep up with Sandy Bridge. A stock X6 1100T is soundly beaten by a stock i7 2500 quad and the 2600 kicks the crap out of any Phenom II. Same clocks speeds too.

well sure, afterall it's going to cost them 1 BILLION dollars to fix this problem. a very strong quarter will give Intel 2 billion in net income (net income, not revenue, is what counts). 1 billion in costs is THAT big if you look at this with some perspective. of course they aren't going to overlook anything after this sata incident.

LOL, are you even serious?

A sandy Bridge chip will be close to 50% faster than a Phenom II at the same clock speeds.

NOTE: I believe Ivy Bridge (which is still Sandy Bridge micro-architecture) will be compatible with LGA 1155. At best, our current mobos might need a BIOS update, but they will be compatible.

NOTE 2: Title is misleading, because the 20% value refers to the IPS increase of the CPUs, while 30% is the value for the GPU increase in performance, and this is not clear in the title.

And while I can believe the 30% increase in GPU performance, the 20% increase in IPS for CPUs seems a bit overly optimistic from a simple die shrink. 20% increases is what is more or less expected when launching NEW architectures, which Ivy Bridge IS NOT.
