New hard drives

Thread Starter
Hi,
My pc was originally built by pc specialist, so I have not yet done a raid yet.

Here is what I want to do
Empty current 500 gb drive and use it as data drive.
Install new 2 samsung f4 in raid 0 as my normal drive.

1) So do I just zero out my current drive using seatools to empty it.

2) Then remove drive from system, put in the two samsung drives
3) Boot up with raid setting in bios, configure and install os.
4) Then put in the emptied 500 gb drive as slave.
Done?

What I am doing is correct?

Thanks for any input.

Cee

I use killdisk to wipe my drives clean but that is a personal preference. To install the 2 drive in raid you have to make sure that the sata cables are plugged into raid ports on the motherboard. Only certain sata ports are raid active. Once you figure that out that go into you bios and set up the raid array. Raid 0 is for performance and raid 1 is mirror. Once your array is setup then you can boot the drives with the windows disk. After the OS and everything is done then plug in you data drive. GLHF!

There's an option to load the raid drivers during windows install, so you might want to download them to a flashdrive or something if you want to install them right away.

You don't really have to erase the other drive. You'll be using it again so you can just format it. It can even be present when installing windows, just as long as you set up your raid array correctly. Make it even easier on yourself, once you have the raid array set up, give it boot priority and you can format your 500gb while installing windows.

Personally I would wait until my new drives were set up and working properly before formatting. Just in case you forgot to get something off the old hard drive.
