I have 2x24" widescreen monitors at home and at work. I've also used the very tall and skinny "tombstone" monitors before, which I found very handy for doing SQL development because it allowed me to view many more lines at once than a normal monitor.

Two monitors is the sweet spot.. One monitor for the IDE and the second for API or Reference material.. A third monitor would maybe used for stimulation? lol jk
But two i think is best.
