Phenom II on AM2+ board - Page 2

http://www.asus.com/Product.aspx?P_I...specifications

Check out the CPU support list and make sure the CPU you want is supported. It looks like most of the Phenom II/Athlon II chips are supported on this board. Just make sure the specific chip you want to install is supported, and definitely update to the latest BIOS BEFORE you install the new CPU if you haven't already.

Another thing to consider is how high of a CPU wattage rating the board can support. According to Asus your board can handle up to 140W CPU's so you should be fine. Just be careful when overclocking and point a fan at the VRM's since they don't have heatsinks (or install some RAMsinks on them or something). When you start putting high-power CPU's in a board that wasn't designed for them and then throw overclocking into the mix, you can damage the board.

Once you update your bios(v0901)M3N78-EM 0901 bios and install the AM2+/AM3 cpu the ht link will be 2000 stock(up from 1000 with AM2)and the 1066 ram option be available.

Good luck

you will be fine as long as the bios supports it.
i use an am3 on an am2+ board and it only gets a bit dodgy with all ram slots populated if i am trying to overclock the ram aswell as the NB+CPU

When i had my 955 in my M3N78-PRO my HT max was 1600Mhz like it said on the box with the latest bios.

And don't get the 970 ... Just get the 955, the 955 and 965 clock about the same and the 970 maybe 100-200Mhz more.
