New Graphics card

Thread Starter
Hi,

I'm currently looking for a new video card with more "power". I Have a PNY Geforce 8500GT installed in my machine at the moment, I need help in finding the "best" video card with a 300W power supply. Mainly I am looking to increase my performance in games, like GTA 4, people say I need to upgrade my power supply for a better card but it seems I can get double the power than I already have with a 300W. ideally, I was looking for a card under 100$$ One card I was interested in the Nvidia GT430... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+G...Card&cp=1&lp=1

P.s. I have a PCI express x16 bus type

Thanks in advance,
Nathan

@ OP: 430 is not bad, I'm wondering how it performs to say a 5750 which could be a better option.

Thanks for the replies, and what exactly is ECO ?

the 8600gt is a big improvement over the 8500 and iirc it can play gta iv on low. What processor do you have? GTA IV is a crap port and you'll need to have a good cpu to run it.

I have an AMD phenom x3 64bit triple core processor at 2.1GHz...

Currently, I can run around 25-30 fps on GTA4 on low....

ECO is a version of the 9800GT that doesn't require external power. This means that you will get 9800GT performance, but the GPU will only use PCI-e power, which is roughly 75 watts.

The ECO editions are slightly downclocked (550MHz core instead of 600MHz on the reference boards), but you can easily overclock them to stock 9800GT speeds or even higher. My Zotac 9800GT ECO went up to 650/1625/970 on stock cooling without breaking a sweat. This was all on a 350W PSU.

Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814187091

It's an ECO card without the need of a PCI-e 6/8-pin. It's only $6 more and will average around 20% more FPS in games. Good deal if you ask me.

Thanks for the help, but that graphics card you provided says a minimum of 400W? This means I cant use it due to my 300W power supply?

EDIT: Now that I realized how incredibly cheap some PSU's are on newegg.com, ill have to uprade
