New Graphics card - Page 2

Nah, the 400W min is a bunch of slag. If your PSU has a decent amount of 12V+ amps, you should be fine running that.

BTW, what brand/model PSU do you have? Oh, and post your system specs, too.

In terms of raw power, the 9800 GT eco should edge the 430 in most games. (for reference 9800GT = 8800GT)
http://www.anandtech.com/show/3973/n...force-gt-430/7

The 430 is a Fermi, so it's DX11 capable, but it doesn't really have the muscle to make use of DX11 features in newer games.

I have a standard OEM 300W... not much info on it....
AMD Phenom x3 Triple-core 64-bit at 2.1 GHz
4 GB RAM
and the 8500 GT.

Another video card im interested in.... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121426
Opinions? Im open to anything that will accept a 300W PSU

The ECO editions are slightly downclocked (550MHz core instead of 600MHz on the reference boards), but you can easily overclock them to stock 9800GT speeds or even higher. My Zotac 9800GT ECO went up to 650/1625/970 on stock cooling without breaking a sweat. This was all on a 350W PSU.

I'm certain that card is a 9600GT in disguise. You'd be better off staying away from the lower-end Nvidia cards, as they tend to be rebranded versions of the previous generation cards sold at a higher price. A 9800GT will smash that card for a lower price.

Example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814187091

It's an ECO card without the need of a PCI-e 6/8-pin. It's only $6 more and will average around 20% more FPS in games. Good deal if you ask me.
My vote is on this!

Just upgrade your PSU (newegg has a 500w OCZ stealthstream for $35) and get a gtx 4xx/5xx type card. Don't buy outdated tech, its not getting the bang for your buck.

Get a nice Antec or Seasonic.

Looks like an OC 430 with GDDR5 memory instead of GDDR3. Just looking at the specs, it should perform a bit closer to an 8800/9800 GT.

For that price though, I don't really think it's worth it. Its only real advantage over the 8/9 series would be DX11, but again I doubt it has the power to make effective use of tessellation in games.

The lower budget ATI cards are usually better bang for the buck tbh...

HD 5570. Will smoke the GT430, and do so with less power draw. At 38W maximum power draw (opposed to 51W for GT430), your 300W power supply will be more than enough.

Edit: nice big heatsink on this fanless HIS
