Question about Win 7 upgrade/full edition

what is the difference?

Are they saying that if you want to upgrade to windows 7 from say vista you have the advantage of paying up to 80$ less simply cause you have a windows OS on your harddrive already but if your harddrive is new you have to pay more??

This doesnt seem right or fair to me, can someone please clear this up? Im looking to build a new rig soon and the OS seems like the most dissapointing thing for me to buy

It's called marketing incentive, your more likely to buy their products and continue to buy their products if you get discounts.

You can clean install with upgrade media. It worked for me, anyway. Might just be because I had the win7 RC installed beforehand.

Yes, that is correct. Although you can purchase an upgrade, install it without the key and then upgrade the install to get it installed. Windows 7 and Vista know if you've upgraded or if you've done a fresh install. If you do a fresh install with an upgrade copy, you will not be able to activate it. There are ways around that though.
