Scythe Gentle Typhoon 120mm 1850 vs 1150rpm

Is this the exact same fans, or can I buy a 1850rpm and get it to run just like the 1150rpm with a fan controller?

Yes, with a fan controller you could set it down to 1150, although the with a cheaper fan controller it would be hard to set it exactly to 1150rpm. You could get it close enough tho.

The GTs are pretty much all the same with different resistors to help control the RPM so the sound shouldn't be different as well.

Really so i could make my 1,450s into the 1,850s without negatively affecting them?

If you can find the right resistors and the right resistances then yes but it would of been better to buy the AP15 in the first place as changing resistors may void warranty which i highly doubt you would care.

I've got several AP-15 (1850RPM) in my case and all of them controlled. I don't have any lower models but when I turn them down, it goes very smoothly and they become inaudible below 1550RPM, as for performance, well just as you would except it.

Gentle typhoons turn down the best of all the fans I've ever owned, nope, no overkill.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the info. I think I'm going to buy something as simple as this one:
kazeq-bl-large.jpg

Then buy a bunch of Gentle Typhoons. Got 2 on my CoolIT-rad, and they are incredible. CPU dropped 10C on load vs my old 120mm push pull!

The cheapest fan controllers in the universe can't make a GT sound bad. I should know - I've got cheap sound controllers that make other fans sound bad, but not these.

But I don't use any fan controllers. I just use Gentle Typhoons - AP-12 (800 rpm) for front intake 20cm from my ear, AP-13 (1150 rpm) for bottom intake and mid-case fans, AP-14 (1400 rpm) for the push and pull fans on the NH-D14 heatsink, when it's in my case. The AP-11 (500 rpm) isn't worth using IMO because you can't hear any difference between it and the AP-12 and it moves less air. I don't need the output of the AP-15 because the D14 is such a good heatsink.

But with your rad, you might want to go with an AP-15.
