Can't get past 4.0Ghz

post #1 of 14

Hi all, need some help here...

I HAD a dynamic OC with SS and TB on, which gave me 4.2Ghz on one core @3.64 vcore. That was 24h stable.

Now I ditched the lousy Mugen2 cooler and replaced it with a TT Frio.
This gave me way better temps, especially in IBT.

But now for some reason, I cannot get past 4.0 stable ???

My settings @4.0Ghz :

vcore 1.32v (offset with SS on)
IMC 1.30v
ICH 1.05v
PLL 1.80v
RAM 1.50v (standard)
LLC enabled

21x190= 4.0Ghz
all powersavings, but SS are off.So only SS enabled with a vcore offset.

The ram is actually underclocked at 1200mhz, so IMC actually could get lowered to 1.17v

This is stable as you can see in the pics :

http://www.overclock.net/attachment....1&d=1296937476

But trying to manage 4.2ghz, I set it at 21x200
IMC back at 1.30v
vcore as high as 1.44v but keeps crashing in prime95 after a few hours.Weird is that its always the third core crashing, which happens to be the coolest of the four.it runs a 7-8 degree lower temp.

I noticed before at 4.0ghz that the third core also crashed at 1.32 vcore and imc at 1.30
When lowering IMC to 1.17 it remained stable.

So at 4.2ghz, could it be the IMC voltage thats causing the instability ?
I can hardly imagine an increase of 0.12vcore for a 200mhz gain...

little help from one of the pros here? I really wanna get this 4.2 stable.I'll have to do it in prime95 which will be slow cause temps in IBT now beginning to rise too high.

what are your bluescreens last 3 letters/numbers? such as 124-more vcore

Can you up your multi to 22x ? if u enable turbo in ur bios will u get 24x ? if so i suggest running at these multi's as 21x isnt very stable even on my system 21x will not hold up at 4ghz though at 24x175 = 4.2ghz i am 100% stable .

try 22x or 24x multi for stability , for 4ghz i would suggest 1.36-1.38v u might need more .

24x167 = 4080
22x182 = 4004

I'm stable at 4.0ghz with vcore 1.320

I wanna get to 4.2, and with TB on that will be on one core only. Not what I want.
Maybe I could try multi 20 ? So 20x210 ?

Ok, so I might get things stable with these settings :

Multi : 20x
Bclk : 210
Vcore : 1.408
IMC : 1.32
vDimm : 1.53
PLL : 1.80
ICH : auto

Temps are on the edge though :

Attachment 194619

But is it worth the extra volts, and is this even good for daily use ?
Cause I'm stable with these settings, which are much lower :

Multi : 21x
Bclk : 190
Vcore : 1.32
IMC : 1.17
PLL : 1.80
vDimm : 1.50
ICH : auto

Temps are about 10c lower with these settings.

Would really appreciate any suggestions, tips or insights. Should I keep it at 4.0Ghz, or go for 4.2 ?

Sry dude, didn't notice this post before. No I'm not getting any blue screens, just freezes, or one ore more cores failing in Prime.

But I'm getting stable now, only took about .08 extra vcore to go from 4.0 to 4.2ghz. Still wondering if that's supposed to be normal or not ? Cause it seems a lot. Also x21 seems completely unstable with a bclk of 200 or more.
220x19 also isn't stable at all. x20 seems to work best.

Freezing=more vcore.

All i7 chips are different, so they might need that extra 0.8v or voltage more before they hit 4ghz, or 3.8ghz, or 4.4ghz, they're all different. I personaly don;t think the extra voltage is worth it, but thats just me.

You can clock it high with high voltage to find its max stable OC then turn on EIST/Cx States and it will drop multiplier and voltage when its not needed(most of the time)

If you're folding 24/7 or something then try to find an OC that gives acceptable temps for continuous max load.
