Unlocking cores?

So I have a the amd 6 core 1090. What I heard is that I can't make use of two of the cores because not much utilizes them yet. Then I heard there was a way to unlock the cores to distribute the processes across the cores. Now im hearing that core unlocking means making use of cores that you don't even have. I bought a board that has a core unlocker so did I waste my money? And how would I set me pc to make use of all 6 cores?

Most of the newer boards unlock cores. The older boards most have Bios updates that will allow unlocking.

Thing is you have 6 cores already. You have nothing to unlock, so turn that option off in Bios.

What they mean by that is for gaming. Games aren't optimized for 6 cores yet, very few for even 4.

You did not waste money on your motherboard because most/all motherboards come with the ability to unlock cores. It's a standard feature.

Core unlocking means you buy a 2 core or 4 core chip, then turn on the unlocker and it becomes a 4 or 6 core chip. You already have a 6 core chip, so do not need to use the unlocker. You should turn it off in BIOS. The unlocker messes up temperature readings and maybe some other things, so if you don't need it, you should turn it off.

You can't force your computer to use all 6 cores. Only the programmers who make the apps you use can do that. It has to be built into the program. Windows does a pretty good job of distributing work across multiple cores when you are running multiple programs, but individual programs can only use as many cores as their programmers planned for.

Yes most of this is true but this statement : then turn on the unlocker and it becomes a 4 or 6 core chip.

But in theory that is how it works, also the pc does make use of all six cores it load balances.
It's not that it isn't using all cores, it isn't using them to their fullest until you use a 6 threaded application.
