Blu-Ray burner and LightScribe??

post #1 of 11
Thread Starter
So I'm looking to get a Blue-Ray burner to replace my current r/w dvd drive and am not sure if I should bother with the LightScribe feature. It sounds cool but I'm wondering if it is really worth the extra $30. Any input/comments/experiences would be helpful. I know that the future of media is streaming and the death of the DVD is slowly coming but personally I like the option of burning Blue-Ray when applicable.

These are the two drives I'm considering.

I know about 10,000 people with a lightscribe drive;

I know about 1 person who has actually bothered to use it more than once.

Marker-pen ftw!

Do you think you will be labeling your disks, if not. Then why pay the money?

I've seen a handful of burned discs with lightscribe labels. They are neat looking but nothing special. I prefer the generic disc with the label written by hand in magic marker.

I went with a non-burning Asus blu ray drive for my rig. $40 on sale from newegg. It has been a couple years since I burned anything to disc. I figure that usb drives are the way of the future.

I actually do tend to like to make labels, just the artistic side of me I guess. Of course, I do already have a nice thick stack of sheets of traditional labels that you send through the printer and then just stick on the disc. Not have to deal with the printer is a nice perk but I'm starting to think I am with you guys and not bother with it. Not to mention the extra $30 would cover my first cake of BD-R's.

I have loads of dvds and a couple blurays with sharpie black marker labeling...lol...never once used the lightscribe on my burners.

I like the feature alot. I have a Lite-On BD Burner and I just happened to get Lightscribe with the drive, but it was a nice bonus. Is it necessary? No, but still cool from time to time
