BSOD, requesting bios update, random restarts. Im lost.

Im running a MSI 790x-g45 motherboard, not OC'd. Win xp32b

Basically i turned my computer on today like normal, loaded up the Rift beta and my computer froze on me twice (figured it was some buggy junk) and i got a BSOD and was surprised since i havnt had a BSOD in quite a while (something like over a year)

After that all hell broke loose, computer stated it requested a flash drive with bios on it and would do nothing besides ask for that, i tried resetting bios and then it would just boot to a black screen.

After letting it sit for a bit i tried it moments ago and it asked for a flash drive again which i put bios on and it accepted the flash drive and booted like normal, after logging it it proceeded to reset itself. After trying to log in a second time it restarted and booted to a black screen.

Its almost as if the cpu is overheating but the bios part is what confused me and led me to this section of the forum.

I cannot remember the BSOD info but i looked it up and it said it could be caused by overheating and possibly a registry error, weather this is related idk but i wouldnt be surprised.

Im running an antec900 which is OP in the wind department, but im using the junky stock cpu cooler that came with the dual core amd i have, i have to double check that its actually working now but its fairly new so i cannot see why.

If anyone could help me out with what to do and what to check i would be eternally grateful.

PS rift is a pretty cool game/sorry for the giant post.

Memtest the ram.
Chances are it borked the bios and the bios recovery kicked in asking for the flashdrive.
I would also do a repair install to your OS, as there is probably some data corruption going on there now too.

Thanks that sounds like a good idea, problem is it crashes after i login haha.

I just moved the ram from port 1/3 to 2/4 and added a new 2 gig stick into port 1 ill see what happens now, re pasted the cpu too because it had a lot of dust in it and cleaned out the cpu fan incase its any overheating issues which i doubt.

Gonna give it a shot and see what happens, if its stable enough the ram test will be first on the list.

Load Memtest86+ on to a form of bootable media and run it from there. That will eliminate your login crash, as it bypasses the OS, which I'm fairly certain is corrupted anyways, hence the crash at login.
