Overclocking by just changing fsb?

Thread Starter
hey guys I have a quick question, Is it ok to OC by just changing the fsb up some notches without changing the voltage or other settings?

The Processor is currently at 2.0ghz and the multiplier is x10 with the voltage at 1.36

Will it be safe to get to about 2.3 or even 2.5?

P.s the processor is a AMD athlon 64 x2 3800+

firstly, please go here and fill out your system specs.

Secondly, that is how overclocking works, by adding extra FSB. Wether or not it works depends on how good your cpu cooler is and if there is enough voltage.

i havn't got much experience with AMD (only OC'd a couple of amd systems) but yes you should be ok, watch your ram speeds as upping the FSB with increase the ram speed. You may have to add a bit of CPU voltage (vcore)but if your only going for a small OC you might be ok with stock

Try 2.1,2.2,2.3 ect untill you become unstable then either add voltage where needed or bump it back a notch

Also have a read of some of the AMD OCing guides

It's safe to change fsb, it's when you start fiddling with voltages you can run into trouble. The worst that will happen is that your OC will become unstable and either fail to boot or in windows it will crash (bsod, etc)

At which point you can knock it back in line by throwing it on a different divider if needed.
