Anyone still have an 8800Ultra? - Page 6

Wish I could help, my ultra friend, baking it in the oven didn't help either frown.gif

I do have the worlds most epic paperweight though, lol.

Boy, I have a treat for you guys tonight. I was able to acquire not one but TWO 8800Ultra's over the weekend (really proud about that). I will using one of my systems with currently two 9800GTX's in there and will be giving you guys results for both Crysis and Crysis Warhead on each setup with the latest drivers.

Expect a post either tonight, or tomorrow latest. smile.gif

Awesome! Are they going in your sig rig? I still need to install Crysis myself bc I wanted to compare with 8800GTS cards and 9800GTX, but it may not be necessary. Would be interesting to see if 720 BE @ 3.5Ghz performs any less in games like Crysis. Too bad my 8800GTX has burned VRM's frown.gif

Unfortunately, my sig rig has a very neat watercooling setup inside it and I would really hate to take it apart just for this test, so instead I will be using it on my secondary rig (Link Here).

About a week after I bought my cards they both started artifacting, really strange that they both started. I did the "self-bake" method and both work great now (other than the one with the purple-hue dvi). Outright baking seems to be pretty hard on the whole card, but its never sure to revive them anyways.

That's funny, I read about that method from Open1Your1Eyes0 thread about saving his GX2, and that saved my Ultras tongue.gif

haha gratz, well Open1Your1Eyes0, I thought this was your show, did you want to set up any configuration guidelines? FlawleZ can only run at 1680 x 1050 I think, so maybe we should scale our benches down to that?

Good to hear you were able to save your cards with baking! I've revived a few so far including one of the 8800GTS 640MB cards I've been testing with. Still overclocks like a champ too! I'll post my results thus far tonight. I figure this will be a work in progress...

Faster is Better you beat me to the benchies. I have one in my gaming rig right now. Actually I have two, but I loaned one to a friend who's GTX295 is giving problems, while he waits for his GTX470.

I bought them refurbished about three years ago, they been rock solid since.

I'm actually interested in testing the full limits of these cards (especially with the extra RAM/bus-width coming into playing on the 8800Ultras), so I was hoping we can run 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 as the standard. For most benchmarks you can actually force a higher resolution than your screen supports, even though it may look odd to you, it will still be rendering fully on the GPU side so you will get legitamite results. Also higher resolution put more stress on the GPU rather than the CPU so we can minimize that factor by using higher resolutions as well. Although if you guys don't feel comfortable with that, I'm open for suggestions. Like I said before, anything you provide will definitely help in contribution.

Well I can keep running them at 1080 then, or maybe both. I also set most of the benchmarks to max settings, even if it put the Ultra to shame haha, single digit fps on Vantage, apparently Stalker had some rough patches to from what it recorded..
i don't think the 768 MB on the ultras can handle anything = or > 1080p.
