BIOS keeps resetting clock speed and voltage

Thread Starter
I'm fairly new to overclocking, but I've read up on the basics and tried adjusting some settings in bios. When I set the clock speed, either my computer doesn't boot or it boots and the clock speed is still default or below. The cpu voltage also seems to get reset on boot. My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3L and I have an intel core 2 duo e7300 @ default clock of 2.66ghz with modifier locked at 10x and fsb @266 mhz.

your OC was unstable and the BIOS reset to stable settings. Try reading a few overclocking guides for your CPU and make sure you get a new heatsink to deal with the larger amount of heat that the CPU will be making if you plan to OC by more than a few MHz safely.

Also, a lot of overclocking is sort of a guess and check. It may take some time to find stable settings at first but you will get it! Just keep at it and dont try to go too far all at once, smaller increments are the way to do it until you get close to where you want to be....then use even smaller increments

Have you disabled your power saving options in BIOS?

When O/C, try small increments in your Vcore and FSB... speaking of which, what is your Vcore sitting at, ATM?

It is either unstable and the bios is loading defaults, or you have a bad battery on the motherboard and need to replace it.

Vcore is at 1.22500v by default. I've tried increasing it, but no more stability. I've tried going for 2.8ghz, which most people say should be fine with no voltage increase, but I haven't had any luck. Where do I find the power saving option?

Oh, and regarding the battery: wouldn't it also forget other settings if the battery was bad?

The values still show up in bios sometimes, they just don't take effect.

Doesn't hurt to replace it and see the results. They go out the shop for a buck or so.
