load line calibration Asrock 890GX

Thread Starter
Just updated my Asrock extreme 3 890GX Bios from 2.40 to 2.50

Just wondering what is the best setting for Load line calibration.

I know what it does just never had it in my bios before update.

I had it on 'auto' and the temps/voltage skyrocketed,

I put it on 'normal' and temps are ok, but not great.
(my NB OC has been upped from 2400Mhz to 2700Mhz may explain rise in temps)

there is an option for 'slight' maybe i should try this,

or disable completely.

this bios update has been around for a while thought I would save myself some testing time and just ask around about it, thanks in advance.

If LLC is activated, Vdroop is deactivated. Vdroop is a way of lowering the voltages under load to avoid that the inevitable voltage ripples shoot over the set voltage in the BIOS. Vdroop is useful under normal operation, but highly annoying under (extreme) OCing as it decreases the voltage you dialed in the BIOS.

When you activate LLC normally you should be able to decrease Vcore and still have the processor stable at the same clock speed. Leaving both LLC active and Vcore high should only be needed if you have very good cooling and you want to beat an OCing record.

Thanks for the detailed description of Vdroop.

I've got it set from auto to normal,
I think before I flashed the new bios that I had it off,
can't really remember and everything reset

Anyway now that it's on I tried an overclock and stabled on much lower voltage than previously so i'm guessing the bios updates worked although I went for a bit lower to make sure I had a stable OC again.

264x14 @ 3.7Ghz
CPU Voltage 1.4 (couldn't stable 3.7 on 1.4 prior to bios update)
NB voltage 1.275 (no CPU-NB voltage control in extreme3 bios)
NB @2640

So does LLC affect NB voltage because before bios update I had to pump the NB voltage to hold an overclock with a NB@2400Mhz (1.4 I think)
now it's down to 1.275 and I think stable

did 4 hours prime blends with no errors planning on doing twelve hours on a slightly higher clock speed later, hopefully 4Ghz with a hefty NB, could be dreaming on this board lol.
