Quit Complaining.
Agreed, it's their console and their right to protect it.

Why does not Microsoft complain about their XBOX? They use their one service to take down hacked boxes. They dont need to take down the web to do that.

It ain't about pride. Sony doesn't own you ****. They don't have to admit to anything. They don't have to get over anything. Someone's doing harm to their business and they have the right to protect it. Money is good.

I had no idea that protecting your business gave you the right to abuse the legal system.

Just in case you're wondering what I'm talking about, Sony filed the restraining order and a lawsuit against GeoHot in a court in california, but the man lives in New Jersey. Also, they got the most vague RO in the world against him, forcing him to surrender his computer, any consoles, pretty much anything that could be used as a storage medium for the exploit against the PS3 to Sony. Not to the police, to Sony.

If you support allowing a company to exploit the legal system in the name of 'protecting business' then I guess you'd be right at home with Big Brother watching you.

Too bad exploiting the legal system, and using the legal system are two totally different things. Is there a government class or equivalent at your school, or near by learning centers? Enroll in it please.

@BSOD
You seem to be conveniently and blissfully unaware of the difference between software and hardware.

By all means... do what you want in order to mod the HARDWARE which you paid for and own.

The SOFTWARE is a different matter...

#ffs, read ANY EULA/TOS or similar... you do NOT have the right to mess with SOFTWARE.

Sony are being dicks, yes.
Anyone hacking or modifying the CODE is BREAKING the BINDING contract they agreed to upon FIRST USING the PS3.

Dress it up any way you like... it is still a violation.

What kind of an arse thinks that buying a piece of hardware gives them some kind of bizarre god-given rights to do what they please with SOMEONE ELSE'S CODE!?

If someone stole some of my closed-source code I would track them down and, whilst they were sleeping, paint their house windows with Gloss Black.

When they woke I would torch their house.

I hate Sony, particularly since the demise of the Dreamcast, but we all know that 99% of the people will use this hack to play pirated games, if you really think people care about homebrew games you're delusional. I'm not against people trying to hack the console but by releasing it they know they will hurt the devellopers even if that wasn't their intention.
