I've said it before, and I'll say it again: If sony wins this case, I'll eat my words. But I have same faith in our legal system, and I don't see this going anywhere but downhill for Sony.

See above

When that code gets in the way of the hardware functioning at it's full capability, it is not covered by copyright law.

Glad to know you're willing to kill people over something so trivial... I think...

Think about it. You assault me, and I decide to press charges. I know that you have a full time job, and can't leave the state to attend court without losing your job, so I sue you in a court a few borders away from where you live to increase the grief you suffer [and to find a more sympathetic judge].

I'm no law student, but I'm pretty sure that's not legal, so why is sony getting away with it?

Oh, thats right. Because they're a multi-million dollar company and GeoHot is just one person.
You live in Florida, you kill someone in California. You will be tried in California. That is how it works. He is being tried in California because most of the servers performing the services were there, like Paypal. Even so, picking the judge that is from where Geo is would be a conflict of interest, and would be Geo exploiting the system. You are damn right you aren't a law student.

So yeah installing OS or emulators for older games should be fine, but a copied PS3 game should get you banned.
And nobody's saying we should be able to hack the PS3 and pirate games with no consequences. Sony would be well within their rights to ban you from PSN or bring charges against you if you pirate a game, not if you have the ability to.

Right, the 3 good PS3 games out are probably around 25GB-50GB, so no.

I for one just want Linux and support for my movies, they play fine on anything but the PS3 and my 360.

It ain't about pride. Sony doesn't own you ****. They don't have to admit to anything. They don't have to get over anything. Someone's doing harm to their business and they have the right to protect it. Money is good.
I bought the hardware, let me do what I want with it, Sony are being childish by assuming we'll all start going "YARR! THERE BE GAMES OFF THE PORT SIDE OF MY SHIP!" straight off the bat with this crack.

Yeah, Sony can tell me to get off PSN and refuse to RMA my PS3 if I ask them to, but they can't go around suing me because I watched a video on how to do it.

By all means... do what you want in order to mod the HARDWARE which you paid for and own.

The SOFTWARE is a different matter...

#ffs, read ANY EULA/TOS or similar... you do NOT have the right to mess with SOFTWARE.

Sony are being dicks, yes.
Anyone hacking or modifying the CODE is BREAKING the BINDING contract they agreed to upon FIRST USING the PS3.

Dress it up any way you like... it is still a violation.

What kind of an arse thinks that buying a piece of hardware gives them some kind of bizarre god-given rights to do what they please with SOMEONE ELSE'S CODE!?

If someone stole some of my closed-source code I would track them down and, whilst they were sleeping, paint their house windows with Gloss Black.

When they woke I would torch their house.

Wow... you are so confused.

Who gives a **** where he lives?
Do you need this spelt out?

Sony. Can't. Sue. Me. For. Modifying. My. PS3. Period.

The EULA says I can't, but the EULA only applies to after sale services, I have no right to complain about lack of PSN or warranty if I mod my console, but I'm free to, plus, the DCMA says jailbreaking is perfectly fine. (Granted, they said for phones but the difference here is absolutely tiny...I'll bet it'll be changed)
Sony wanted the IPs of everyone who watched a video, they have no legal right to do so.

I'd agree with you if this was the 360...The amount of actually good games on the PS3 is so small that most people probably have them all already.

Not a Sony product, it's a group thing.
And besides, in this day of digital distribution? Not hard to do so.

I guess you shouldn't be able to modify Windows to your liking either. I mean after all you are modifying the Windows software... Oh, and I guess you also shouldn't be able to jailbreak your iDevice. After all according to your logic these companies actually own your devices and you're a slave to their EULAs.

Sony's clear abuse of the legal and moral systems have left me no other choice but to boycott them for life.
This.
This is like if Dell said "Sorry, you can't install Linux or a newer version of Windows on a Dell PC unless its bought from us."

The sad thing is, if Dell did that and sued people who installed Linux or non-dell versions of windows, someone would probably be like "Well, it does make it easier for warranties..."

Actually I'm pretty sure it does...Granted, you have to use those types of sites to get the apps and install them, it's the same as rooting an Android phone...It provides you with the tools to be able to do it but trusts you not to, in a way.

Obvious fanboy troll is obvious. If you aren't going to contribute anything logical or unbiased, don't bother posting. Literally, you have the two consoles mixed up. The number of epic exclusives on the PS3 completely demolishes the number on the 360. Outside of exclusives, they are all exactly the same. So congrats for making yourself out as being an ignorant fool.

He's one of the few in this thread that has offered a well thought-out argument. No one has properly addressed his points. Regardless of what his opinion on available PS3 titles are, the reasoning he uses is solid.

Why don't people want to own their possessions. Is an argument on the internet more important than that.

Too bad it consisted of obvious biased fanboy opinions, bad analogies, and disregard of proper copyright protection.

They aren't going to sue people watching the crack video. People are blowing this out of proportion.

I wished all of these PS3 crack threads could be merged, this is like fighting a war on multiple fronts. It appears StealthPyro and XNine, with a random few stragglers, are the few with any common sense.

IDK if you're talking about Zinxe or me [as he's on my ignore list], but he shows himself to be a slave to his emotions. He's too convinced that h's right to listen to reasoned or well thought out arguments.

Hypocrisy at its best, considering this guy is the one that "ignored" me. Hah. It is really sad when someone resorts to ignoring someone when they lose an argument.
