Best ATI driver cleaner

Thread Starter
I had a 4670 before and then I upgraded to 5770 and now I just recently upgraded to 5870 and it seems like some of my old drivers are interfering with my current setup i see some lag in a few games which i shouldn't see...what's the best utility to uninstall ATI drivers completely?

The one I use is DriverSweeper:
http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/
After you down load it make sure you run it in "safe mode with networking".

It's always done a great job of cleaning rogue ATi drivers for me.

also, take out the ethernet cable after you reboot.

That way windows wont download a generic drive for it

You're not supposed to use a Driver Sweeper at all. Just uninstall the drivers with their Remove tool, and install the new ones. Using Driver Sweepers can sometimes cause more issues than they fix.

I didn't use a Driver Sweeper at all jumping from my HD4890 to my GTX470 + GT240 setup. I just uninstalled the old drivers, turned the machine off, swapped cards, rebooted, installed new drivers. And I have yet to have a driver related problem (other than Nvidia overwriting my audio drivers....but that's another story).

AMD Catalyst TwL Cleaner v3.9.2 found in this thread: http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=332395

Driver Sweeper is no bueno.

I use these steps:
Quote:
1. Uninstall AMD Catalyst Suite from Control Panel. Don't Express Unintall if you have an AMD chipset motherboard.

REBOOT IN SAFE MODE http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

2. Open Device Manager (Control Panel> System and Security> System> Device Manager). Uninstall all devices in "Display adapters" class.Tick "Delete the Driver Software for this Device" also if available. DON'T right-click "Scan for hardware changes" afterward (we will do it later, we want the Display adapters class to be empty for now). Minimize Device Manager window.

3. Run latest "AMD Catalyst TwL Cleaner 3.9.2.cmd". Say yes to all deletion asked. Delete the pinpointed registry GUIDs (important). Don't reboot.

4. Go back to Device Manager windows. Right-click "Scan for hardware changes". [THIS IS IMPORTANT!! If you don't do this step you won't make it past the Windows loading screen, but don't panic you can just boot back into safemode again to do it if you forget.]

Reboot in Normal Mode.

5. Install your new AMD Catalyst driver.

This^^^^^^. AMD said their self to not use DriverSweeper at all with their drivers, it "may" cause issues.
