Breathing Life into an Old Computer

Thread Starter
I've racking my brain on my current computer situation, I only have about 40$ that I can spend right now, but I'm waiting for an ebay auction to end for another $200, and I've been trying to think about upgrading my computer. I will be selling my current CPU, Motherboard, RAM, and VIdeo Card for added money towards the upgrade. Perhaps even the cooler depending on if I want to upgrade.

Since my budget is somewhat tight to about $400 or so, I'm thinking I should go quad core AMD Phenom II X4 920, since it's got a 2mb bigger cache than my q8300, and it has more headroom for OC'ing, with the 2.8 Ghz stock speed.

For an AM3 motherboard that I will be trading out for my P5N-D, I was looking at the ASRock 870 EXTREME3 Mobo, that will support the DDR3-1066 2 x 2 GB memory sets

And as for the video card, I still don't know. I think it should be something from ATi so I can utilize CrossfireX. But that's what my ideas are so far, what do you guys think about that?

Your current computer is still capable of playing just about any games out at your 1440x900 resolution. I would do 1 of two things.

1)Take the extra cash and buy another 9800GTX
2)Take the money and put it in saving and keep saving where you can. Eventually you'll have enough to get a full new system

I agree with M0E. Save up more so you can do a proper system upgrade.
