Alright guys I will try GTX480 SLI with my TX 750 watt PSU. WIll post back with results. I dont plan to ever use furmark
You water cool and dont plan to overclock? The extra performance that is just sitting their with 480's is just to good to go un recognized, and if you do how will you stress test?

this isnt true. there is no efficiency curve. and if there was its not at 50% load. thats garbage. one of our veteran members debunked this myth long ago.

there is no reason you should buy a psu that is twice of what you actually need just because of a so called mythical "efficiency curve"

and btw 750 is not enough. you need a high quality 850w. minimum.

Smart move.

I watched furmark take my sli 480 to 1200w, immediate shutdown.
Moderate oc/voltage you should be fine, but if you want to push >1.10v on the 480s, be wary.
They're 350w cards, easy.

I just said there is an efficiency curve. I didn't really say it matters. I am just saying that the PSU will be more then enough.

Also I dont plan on overclocking the cards at all. And somebody asked why I have water cooling on my GPU if I dont overclock it, its because I enjoy the silence while gaming. I only OC my CPU, never graphics cards

all im saying is, it is foolish to estimate how big of a power supply you need based on an efficiency curve. no offense intended. just looking out for the op so he doesnt go overkill in buying a psu rated at 1200w.

1. Your system won't "explode". If it's a good quality PSU, it will shutdown to prevent damage.

2. I know this is an overclocking forum, but until you can get a higher-wattage unit, run the 480's at stock till then. Seriously, a single 480 is fast, SLI'd is IMO stupidly fast, don't OC and risk nearing the limit for a little more performance. It will run fine on 750W, but when you want to start overclocking, I'd upgrade for an extra ounce of security and headroom.

i wouldnt risk it, just because games dont consume as much power as furmark right now doesnt mean one wont show up that does. Also i wouldnt run to run my psu damn near its max all the time. I like the peace of mind knowing that regardless of what i run i dont have to worry about blowing my system up
