M4A88TD-V EVO or M4A79XTD EVO

Hey guys,

Well which is better? It is for a new rig with a 955, hyper 212+, 6850 and 2x2gb g.skill ripjawsx. I will be doing some overclocking but nothing extreme. 3.6-3.8 or so.

Or

Depends if your sold by USB3.0 and Sata 3. If not, then I'de say the 79xtd because you wont need the onboard graphics while leaving the possibility of future crossfire with 2 good bandwith pci-e slots

apart from the USB3 and SATA 6GB/s, are there any differences with overclocking? or are both equal

Do you need onboard video? I've found chipsets that feature onboard tend to overclock not as well. I returned a M4A88TD-V EVO/USB3 just yesterday because of this. Aside from just looking like a nice board there are a few serious drawbacks and most of them deal directly with its ability to overclock.

I think only the 790 and 890 MBs have heatsinks on MOSFETS/voltage regulators, for good OverClockablity (I'm sure others have created that word too), you need good cooling of the MOSFETs/VRMs

The add on heatsinks are pretty cheap depending are where you get them, $15-25, but then a 880 and HSs costs close to the same as a 890.

you can get the Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H which has the 890GX chipset for on 99 which is only £8 more than the M4A88TD-V EVO you were looking at:

http://www.ebuyer.com/product/197546

I think that is a better chipset than the two you were looking at.

However if you want the ASUS brand, then my money goes on the 800 series - (just for future use)

that gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H has 4+1 phase whereas the 2 I listed have 8+2 phase. Would it make much of a difference in overclocking? I should've said before that i have a budget and that the 79xtd was perfectly priced, I want to spend about £80, but willing to go up to £90 ish. crossfire would be nice but not definately needed, I am still unsure whether or not I will buy another 6850 later on

Get 880 or 870-absolutely no reason what-so-ever except maybe price to go backwards in chipset design.
