High FPS with SLI system however feels less smooth then a single Card,is this normal?

Hi, I've noticed that even though the SLI gives me a nice boost in fps, when the action gets heavy and FPS drops as expected,it feels jerky and not natural and smooth.

However with the Single card, I get less FPS but when the action gets heavy and the fps drops it still feels natural and not jerky.

The game(s) in particular: (I also have MAFIA 2 getting only a few extra FPS in SLI over single>>Benchmark only though)

Resolution for all games: 1920x1080

Crysis Enthusiast with 2xaa >>
SLI:AVG FPS:68(drops to 50-58 when action is heavy) >>Crysis Benchmark AVG:70.01
Single:Avg FPS: 38-43(drops to 33-35 when action is heavy) >>Crysis Benchmark AVG: 44.06

Starcraft II: Ultra settings, this game I have had issues on my previous PC and now this one too.

SLI: The FPS is inconsistent, I'm getting 130FPS then 100, then 80 and then 60,50 etc. all random, slow down in cutscenes as well, 11fps.

Moving around the map feels jerky as well and not smooth at all, quite annoying.

Single Card: Even here it is not consistent, however here the gameplay feels smooth and moving around feels so good. Lowest FPS was 58, which was good.

Just Cause 2/Two Worlds 2:

Single: Just Cause 2:Works like a charm and with nearly all settings enabled.
Two World 2: DX10 Maxed out, 49-70fps, was smooth and enjoyable.
Sli: Just Cause 2 is maxed out, 32XQ,I get around 35-42FPS AVG
Two World 2: DX10, maxed out, 30-70...however all over the place and definitely not smooth.

I know it is not the cards as I've tested each one in single mode and it works great.

I have no idea what is going on, The SLI bridge was seated on properly, it detects it in the control panel fine, SLI/PHYSX visual indicator is showing that it is working.

I'm at a loss for words, anyone have any ideas? I apologize for the long post, but just wanted to explain everything in full detail.

If anyone can help, I would very much appreciate it, thank you.

Run it with vsync on.

During gameplay, unless you have a 120MHZ monitor, you won't benefit from over 60 fps.
Vsync usualy makes the gameplay smoother. Its usualy related to a bit of micro stutter in SLI systems.

I second that, turn Vsync on, or if they option isn't available (like in Metro2033) force it in the driver. Also turn on triple buffering so that framerates aren't cut hugely whenever fps dips below 60.

Yeah sorry guys, I just forced V-Sync on(even though some of the games had in-game V-Sync) and triple buffering, it runs smooth now, still not perfect, but definitely better.

Thanks, I'll be getting a 120HZ monitor tomorrow though, I ordered it last week,do I still enable V-Sync for those games?

As some cant reach 120FPS.

I was afraid of this when I went to 2 cards as well. I don't see it thank god!!! I was told that if you are having it try switching your cards up and see if one does better being the first card.

Maybe it has something to do with me using a 120hz monitor (even though I do not use vsync) but I went from a single 470, sold it off for a good price and got a deal on two 460s that would fit in my case with my rad and I have not once had a complaint that I can recall about in game smoothness.

I am not sure what actually contributes to the effect that people call "micro stutter." I know that there are different rendering methods in Nvdia Control Panel in regards to how it pulls rendered frames from the two cards, maybe look into those? I believe they are in the '3d Settings'

temps on the other hand...these things idle ~50C with dual monitors, but wont break 65-70C at load... its weird.

People actually play without V Sync On ? What's the point of having 100 FPS if you get screen tearing lol...
