With the recent developments in the CoD series, I think a 4 year old could top Call of Duty. I still play CoD 4 all of the time, but Battlefield will hands down take the throne of FPS's imo.

After being a COD player, I would love to see DICE dethrone ACTIVISION. COD has become crap, especially after BLACK OPS.

If I want driving game I'll go play NFS. If I want to depend on my teammates and healers I'll play WoW. Also BFBC2 sucks because there's no strafing, which was a staple of gameplay, in all of the best PC games, like Doom, Quake, UT, CS there was always strafing.

The point is: first person shooter should be about, well, shooting, not waisting your time repairing some tank.
Yeah, BFBC and BFBC2 suck.

BF2? Well, guess where CoD stole a lot of its features and the way it works from..?

I can see why people don't like CoD players, but then I consider myself to be a good example... so I am biased.

Wolfenstein started it all by shooting sprites, Doom eventually allowed for LAN, but it was primarily shooting more sprites. Quake was all about offline mode, till the arrival of LAN, and then Q3 was primarily designed for online play. Counter-Strike borrowed from Unreal Tournament a few of the weapons, but focused more on smaller compact squads and objectives other than CTF. Team Fortress was primarily bombs and CTF, but there was quite a bit of variety and strategy created by the players, more so than by the maps (about the only class that was pointless was Pyro.)

There are no rules to what makes a FPS other than you are first person and you can shoot HOWEVER, there have been quite a few trends if that is what you meant. Many FPS today are solely focused on shooting other players, but there is no reason why it has to stay that way. Call of Duty have arguably stuck by this simple design strategy, while also implementing varied objective style matches and have been quite successful. Where as game devs like DICE try and push the genre envelope in a different direction. I wouldn't be surprised if they defined a new genre FPRTS and pushed forward along those terms.

I remember when EVERY video gamer playing games was a N3rd. In fact, I don't find it to be the insult it used to be. Pot calling the kettle black, you yourself are arguing about video games, how much nerdier can you get?

Dice is a very good company, look at Mirror's Edge. Anyways i find it pretty tough to think we can dethrone Call of Duty as much i'd like to see that happen and it might.. Is it just me or do i think Crysis 2 is gonna dominate both games? You think?

Even if it's better, that won't matter. People like simplicity under a shallow aesthetic.

I, for one, agree with the "tank hits player and player lives" portion, as well as being pretty buggy for a game, but I love BFBC2. I was a big BF2 player as well before that. I find the game extremely fun when you play with ~7 other people on your team in a voice chat server. Playing by yourself blows.

I really can't wait for BF3. I'm so hyped. I just hope it delivers. Usually really hyped games fail hard. Bring it on EA.
Doh! >.<

I'm saying it should be realistic to the sense that it's "expected", but not so realistic that it takes value away from gameplay "too realistic", like the blood splatter on your monitor, etc.. (Blood Splatter & Snow Blink + Recoil = BAD)

Too many effects really did Battlefield Bad Company 2 injustice, it wasn't so great, though graphics were pretty good (except the grenade glitch & visual hindrances), overall though it was poorly designed to me..

If they can give us the realistic Aiming & Shooting part, without all the crummy VFXs, and make damage more realistic, then I think BF3 will be huge, but I'm speaking for the PC Platform, on the console it's just not feasible to have realistic aiming & shooting without serious issues...

One of the biggest realizations some game makers had is when they pitted a great PC FPS player playing on a console against a crummy player who was on a PC, the PC Player who was crummy OWNED all of the great pc players who were on a console... Consoles BLOW for FPS!

They promised that BF3 will NOT be a watered down Console Port, and if you really want to sum up what Bad Company 2 is, it's just that a watered down Console port, lol...

I cannot agree with this statement in one bit, personally I kind of hate too much simplicity, in fact I like hard or more detailed games, especially games with lots of controls...

Considering how many buttons you can press in a game to do something makes me feel like I'm more in control and have more options, however, too many controls can be overwhelming though..

FPS are mainly controlled by the mouse, with the exception of movements, which is the left hand, and grenade launching / switching weapons, etc.

FPS lacks a need to think, you run around the map blasting anything that moves, or you sit and camp blasting anything that moves, if you see a comrade down, you pick him up, etc. etc.. Now there are instances where one does think, I'm not saying it's a mindless game, but it's definitely not taxing on the brain, that's for sure! I've heard many players who were drunk playing the game, they sucked at that time, but they are great players none the less..

The problem is, they have been playing FPS games for YEARS and they are so good that, when they go online that many players detest them or call them cheaters because their skill is like truly level 50...

I noticed this was very evident in Battlefield Bad Company 2, all the high rank players constantly own the new players... New players feel like everyone must be cheating because the offline play is not even remotely close to online, even on hard, because the enemy is actively trying to hunt you down and put their knife in your neck!

Then you have a lot of randomness which is someone lobbing a grenade or using an RPG or 40mm Grenade launcher and they randomly hit you, which isn't that infrequent in large 32 Person Maps... the chaos that a 64 Person map creates makes it EXTREMELY hard to move around in..

Hackers will cry that they want more players on a server (to slaughter with hacking), but I for one find small maps with fewer players more enjoyable, you can actually keep tabs on where the enemy is or might be, there are only a few of them out there, so the danger isn't so in your face everywhere you turn at every second....

I just wish they could give it all careful consideration, truly...
