I cannot agree with this statement in one bit, personally I kind of hate too much simplicity, in fact I like hard or more detailed games, especially games with lots of controls...
Considering how many buttons you can press in a game to do something makes me feel like I'm more in control and have more options, however, too many controls can be overwhelming though..
FPS are mainly controlled by the mouse, with the exception of movements, which is the left hand, and grenade launching / switching weapons, etc.
FPS lacks a need to think, you run around the map blasting anything that moves, or you sit and camp blasting anything that moves, if you see a comrade down, you pick him up, etc. etc.. Now there are instances where one does think, I'm not saying it's a mindless game, but it's definitely not taxing on the brain, that's for sure! I've heard many players who were drunk playing the game, they sucked at that time, but they are great players none the less..
The problem is, they have been playing FPS games for YEARS and they are so good that, when they go online that many players detest them or call them cheaters because their skill is like truly level 50...
I noticed this was very evident in Battlefield Bad Company 2, all the high rank players constantly own the new players... New players feel like everyone must be cheating because the offline play is not even remotely close to online, even on hard, because the enemy is actively trying to hunt you down and put their knife in your neck!
Then you have a lot of randomness which is someone lobbing a grenade or using an RPG or 40mm Grenade launcher and they randomly hit you, which isn't that infrequent in large 32 Person Maps... the chaos that a 64 Person map creates makes it EXTREMELY hard to move around in..
Hackers will cry that they want more players on a server (to slaughter with hacking), but I for one find small maps with fewer players more enjoyable, you can actually keep tabs on where the enemy is or might be, there are only a few of them out there, so the danger isn't so in your face everywhere you turn at every second....
I just wish they could give it all careful consideration, truly...
