Need help getting the MOST i can out of Oblivion

Thread Starter
Back in the day i put about 1000 hour into morrowind, and absolutely fell in love with the game. Oblivion was a love/hate kind of thing. The auto leveling of enemies was a terrible choice in my opinion. However, i only had the option of playing on 360 since my pc was terrible. I just built a new pc and am looking to finally play oblivion the way i would like with mods and using nvidia 3d vision for the immersion. I have all the gameplay mods i want, but I REALLY want to up the graphics as far as they can go since i have such a powerful card now. So far i have heard of Quar's Texture Mod 3, and another mod that you can enable ssao. In your opinions what should i download to make this game look the best it possible can?
thanks for your time

TOTO has links and advice for replacing almost every single texture and most of the models in the game.
Bananasplit's Better Cities and the Unique Landscapes mods add a huge amount of detail and eyecandy to the game.
If your game is still running smoothly, try using OBGEIt can add SSAO and a couple other things, plus you can code your own shaders if you are into that.

Also try using RAEVWD. It makes EVERYTHING viewable at any distance, though you may want to turn off some parts. There is a seperate mod that compiles any changes that mods make to the landscape and adds them to RAEVWD, but I forget what it's called.

Good luck... after Morrowind, I never could play Oblivion, even after installing tons of mods to make it more like Morrowind.

yeah i hear you, i figure this is my last stab at it. If graphics updates, mods, and 3d vision don't do it, I am done with the game. It is sad because of how good morrowind was. I hate the fact that the enemies level with you because there is never any sense of accomplishment for attaining better weapons. Your almost forced to just to stay up with the monsters getting stronger. I also HATE fast travel, it makes a huge game feel tiny and i miss having to get out my foldout map in morrowind and trying to navigate to my destination based on the quest dialogue. Man what an amazing game......

Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul will correct a lot of that. He hand placed something like 3,000 items and NPCs and creatures, and remade the leveled lists to be more static and like Morrowind's.

But even with that, I couldn't play it for reasons you know well.

You have to play Oblivion from a more of a power-leveling point of view, with your goal being survival in the long run. Yes, it's fun to take Stealth, Longsword and Block as majors at the start of the game, but if those are the only 3 skills you use you will be level 20 by the first gate. This is why I hate the monsters leveling with you- you have to retard your leveling so you can get the maximum stat upgrades every level by using offskills, otherwise you get absolutely ruined.

When there is a legitimate guide for "Under-leveling" in the wiki that is actually useful, you know the game has some issues.

No problem, now that I'm home, I found the file. It's called TES4LODGen and can be found at TESNexus.
Also probably the most important bit of advice for modding Oblivion: only install one or two mods at a time and then playtest, no matter what they are. Trying to find the source of a problem when you have installed a lot of mods suuuucks, and little issues always crop up. Good luck!
