What are the Best Netbooks currently out there? - Page 2

Intel integrated GPU is the major downfall of most Atom-based netbooks. It will run Aero in Win7, to help take a load off the CPU, and it will play standard def videos in VLC, but that's the limit.

Basic gaming (old games, such as AoE2, maybe Half Life, perhaps even PVZ) will work. Nvidia Ion is a terrific boost, but it's expensive, and difficult to find.

The AMD fusion based netbooks look to be very good for performance, but battery life is going to be lacking more than an Atom N450, and even the dual core 510 Atom. It's a tradeoff.

I use a netbook for basic things (primarily a torrent box as it pulls a max of 27 watts from the wall, vs. 300+ for my big rig). Browsing is fine, basic media (video and audio) works well. I also carry mine about and use to burn discs (with external burner), or keep tools on for troubleshooting another computer. It's not powerful, but more than gets the job done, and I can get a solid 7+ hours of battery life out of it, which helps if I'm mobile.

I've also run NES and Genesis emulators on mine before, without issue. Mine is an N450 Atom, LED 10.1" screen, 2GB of RAM, and 250GB HDD.

They're netbooks... who is expecting to play 3d games on them?

And don't Google that... do actual research. The netbook market is small enough to research the components in today's offerings and actually form your own conclusion.

This is Overclock, not Yahoo Answers.

I love my ASUS 1201. This is the new version:

It's kinda a high end netbook (12.1") but the screen is awesome, and having a dual core CPU is nice too.

So what do you guys think of the

?

The dual core will work pretty well. The GPU is integrated into the chip as well, if I remember correctly. Not a bad price overall. About the only thing I would change is upgrading the RAM to 2GB. They're definitely getting better with time.

That's very close to the one I have sitting next to me. I bought it for my dad. I've played around with it some and it's great for what it is. This is the exact model I bought him...

When I said the GPU are too weak.... they really are. I highly recommend not getting any Atom netbook that uses an Intel IGP.

You cannot play full screen Hulu or video on them. There is very limited or no hardware acceleration for video and the CPU gets taxed.
Once again...
