Almost dead silent.

Thread Starter
For the past 8 years I've had about 6 different setups, never have I manged to the silent enough (mostly because I like to overclock and thus need better cooling = more fans).

Now I've had enough (for now) of overclocking, and believe I've made my perfect comp.

The rig:
- P180 Mini (only top fan spinning)
- Antec 500W Earthwatt (not fanless, but silent)
- H67MA-UD2H
- i5 2500 /w. Zalman Flex (fanless, 70-71° under Linpack)
- Mushkin 996825 (1600 @ 1.35v, running @ 1333 CL9, trying to find out how low volts I can reach)
- PNY GTX460 (fan is locked @ 30% or 40%, cant remember which since I'm not using the comp. right now, but nearly completely silent and hits about 75°c under furmark.
- Intel 160GB X25 (no need for more disks since my server for my data)

The computer is so silent, that the only way for me to tell if its running is by checking if the blue light is blinking or not.

Mission: Success (for now)

won't last long, the overclocking bug will bite and you'll ratchet up the fans to compensate

That's fine. He has H67 chipset, so no overclocking.

grats .

my machine hardly makes audible noise unless the TV is of, which is usually not the case. the P180 Mini is to blame for that . best production case in the world IMO

There is a company, I read about some time ago, they make these silent computers...

CPU Heatsink Cooler & PSU That uses No Fans + Small Form Factor too..

Now with Brazo....

I can this actually being a viable HTPC!!!

I think silent is ok, but if it can't perform, well, that's not really worth it...

Not much performance is needed for an HTPC. Putting a GTX 460 in it makes it a gaming rig, not an HTPC.

I got a silent PC too.
The one audible part is the PSU fan, which is pretty silent tough. I could make a video if anyone wants, while making various noises for comparison(I did that already, but lost the vid file).

The standard comparison for me are: keyboard typing sounds(silent laptop-like Logitech Illuminated), footsteps(socks on wooden floor) and in the summer, the occasional infernal mosquitoes that manage to get in the room: I have got to hear them and smite them with my furious and uncontrolled hand clapping!

L.E.: did I mention that my build is dirt cheap and I run Civ V and SC II 24/7 on it?

+1 to i'll drink to that There should be a club or something

Also made my rig silent a few days ago too.

Running ALL my fans @ 5v, along with my new Phantom 570 running at 30% fan speed i can hardly hear a thing (except that damn soon to be replaced dvd drive lol). I love it, it's pure bliss.

How people can put up with a noisy rig is beyond me. It's so unnecessary.

EDIT: Cool rig too btw. +rep for running quiet system.

This was made to be silent, not to be over clocked. Haven't turned of the system for about a week now, I disconnected the HDD led and PLED just after I wrote this thread to see if I could remember to turn it off, I failed.

Notice that I cannot sleep unless there is pitch black and completely silent (cant even fall asleep listening to my favorite music).

Anyways hopefully I have somebody a idea-to-silentness.
