i got my droid milestone running cricket right now, 45 bucks a month, works fine, rooted and flashed obviously... going to a droid x or evo 4g now to do the same

came over from a iphone 4 and am faszinated with speed and customizability on these things

id say root it

bing search sucks it never brings up anything that I am searching for unlike google.

I find things a little bit better with Bing. Google has started to become, eh. Not sucky, but not as good. I don't know why.

If you're really just a "basic" user in that you'd actually just use email, internet, and voice, there's no point of rooting. If you'd like to tinker, however, and do some truly cool things with your phone, rooting is the best thing you could do.

Never been a fan of Bing myself. The layout, format, color, actual results -- none of it tickles my fancy.

root gives you access to insert custom roms (yes also illegal ones).
