cardboard case - 56kB warning

Before I begin, I hope I started this thread in the right section and if someone thinks differently I'll move it.

I went to a garage sale over the weekend and picked up a 939 motherboard and chip for £10.

Heres what was in the box, cpu is 3200+

The motherboard box had this suggestion on it

I gave it a try and it kind of worked

The retail box came with an empty motherboard box that I decided to use as the base for a new "case"

I made a cut out for the cd drive and found another larger box to use as the main outside of the "case"

After this I laid the motherboard inside along with a fan to see how much spacing I had in there

I then made the i/o cut out

unfortunately the board didn’t come with an i/o shield; also my cutting skills on the section were pretty bad

I installed a spare cpu cooler I had and my old vga card

The next step was making cut outs for the fans

Check out that cooler clearance

This posts kind of an anti climax because I didn’t have a psu to test it with, but should have in a couple of days.
In the meantime I have some ddr memory and a molex led to use as a power led. I haven’t got any switches but will use a screwdriver to jump the power pins in the meantime.

The point of this case if just to see if it is possible to make a cardboard case, and if all goes well, try it again with another cardboard box and straighter cuts.

Hope you all liked it.

thanks, am doing this mostly for kicks

I’ve set up "front panel" usb connectors and an led for power

I used some spare sleeving I had on the fans and led, there was no heat shrink left so I used electrical tape

Close up of that usb action. The screws do nothing and are purely for aesthetics

I got a psu hooked up and she started up

However there were problems.
Strange bios codes prevented booting so I took her out for testing.

Fortunately this time she started

I checked the temps in bios and all was fine

In not sure what caused her to hesitate, maybe it was claustrophobic in the "case" or more likely a short some were.
