Anyone know if there is a driver solution for the onboard Marvell controller on the ASUS boards? I get better performance in RAID0 with the Sata 2 connection. That definitely shouldn't be the case...
MSI says it's a Marvell hardware limitation and their "2x sata III performance in raid 0" advertisement now has a disclaimer saying "not recommended for SSD's." Asus still advertises as "true 6GB/s raid."
So far the only place I've seen proper raid 0 speeds for C300's is with that rocket raid 640 controller ~ $200, and it has the same Marvell 9128 chips that I have onboard.
If you're interested, take a look at the benchmarks.

It seems that ICH1OR would give you a better actual experience than even the Rocket Raid setup, even though you'll get higher sequential reads with the RR640.
The trouble people have been having with these new raid controllers is astounding, though. I did a little bit more research to find out if it was just the people, or the product; it turns out it's a bit of both. All of the 6GB/s raid controllers on the market are hit and miss right now, and you'd be lucky if you get one to work with your build.
I guess it'll have to be ICH1OR for a while.Edited by Mookster - 2/8/11 at 6:25am
