How ever even tho i thought i disabled all the settings that require you tro enter credentials it still ask me for it saying there is a username error or something..

At one point both computers has the username Adrian..

What do i do?!?!

Ill give remote access to any one who thinks they can solve the problem if it is a difficult solution

You can usually sneak by with settings up both machines with an account on each with admin rights with the same username and password.

Otherwise... when it first prompts you for user/pass, you need to type in

username: computername\\username
password: password

and then be sure you check "remember this password" before hitting okay.

Your computer can be found under Start > Control Panel > System

and remember that you are entering the computer name of the computer you are trying to remotely access, not the name of the one you are on.

Genius windows workgroup networking at play.

If that is the case, you may need to create a login script to map the drive with the correct credentials each time you turn the PC on.

Easiest way is to make a .txt file and enter this and change it for your needs

Quote:
net use DRIVE: /delete
net use DRIVE: \\\\servername\\sharename /user:USERNAME PASSWORD
So it would look like this... (you want to copy/paste and edit this)

Quote:
@echo off
net use z: /delete
net use z: "\\\\eric-pc\
etwork apps" /user:Eric secret123
exit
Then save the file and rename it with a ".bat" extension instead of ".txt".

Then you can put the file anywhere on your computer and then place a shortcut to it or the file itself in your startup folder.

That way, when you log onto the PC, it will delete the mapped drive and then create a new mapped drive (sort of restarting the connection) and connect to it using the given username and password.

Ok let me Start fresh i tried making my request easier to lower the confusion.

I have 4 computers

My Main rig (Desktop on 24/7 1 TB external back up drive ETC ETC)

My other machine is a windows Xp machine (Using Ntbackup i already set it up for network use)

Now on the last two machines i have Windows 7 Starter and windows 7 Home premium.

Now the built in back up ulity In windows 7 Home prem and Start only allows you to Back up on local devices (Ultimate and Enterprise allow you to do it via the network).

So instead of consitantly connecting the External to the laptops and waiting for it to back up / Downloading 3rd party software to do the backing up i decided to make a Virtual hard disk on the External HD. Then make the laptops load the .VHD via the network and make it appear as a logical Drive on the computer. Then i can use the windows utily to back up on this logical hard drive.

No extra hardware / Software necessary. So it can be managed by windows and not clog the system.

I Do this by running a batch file in the start up folder.

Startup.bat
Code:
Diskpart /S C:\\intel\\DiskpartCMD.txt
DiskpartCMD.TXT
Code:
Select vdisk file="\\\\Adrian-PC\\Adrian-NB\\Adrian-NB Backup.Vhd
Attach vdisk
Select Volume 1
assign letter=D
Using this code on the laptop worked well. On start up the computer would automatically connect to the virtual drive and assign it a drive letter.

The problem is that my netbook using windows 7 start dosnt want to follow suite. (Of course different .VHD file ETC ETC)

it will only connect to the drive after i put my credentials.

[Thinking about this during this post gave me a idea that might work]

** Ahh just had to set custom settings in windows credential manager! Im all good!
