Game Recording and Streaming

Thread Starter
Hey guys i have tried to stream my gaming before on justin.tv without much success. I have tried to do it with FME 3.1 i believe its called but it always seems to be laggy output even if im playing the game smoothly. Also i have only tried streaming from a SNES emulator. It seems to take up a lot of CPU resources so i was wondering if my rig could even handle streaming a real game like Dragon Age Origins?? Anyone know? Is it the way im trying to stream that is causing the lagginess and high CPU usage?? Any help with getting me able to stream gaming would be great.

Also to record my gaming i have used FRAPS. Is that the best way I do notice it hits frame rate hard when you start to record. What is the best way to do it without hurting frames to much??? I have tried record in half size which helps. Anything else? What is the best frames per second to record at?

Streaming live content is always going to be cpu intensive. I remember streaming on my c2d (using procaster for livestream) and it made some games damn near unplayable. It's the same story with fraps. A processor upgrade would probably serve you best if you're planning on streaming regularly. I know most quad cores will do the job just fine.

CPU intensive is what i expected....so even an overclock probably won't do it for most modern games without getting horrible frames?? Is there any games i could stream successfully with my current set up without lag?? I just want to learn how to do it.

But also want it to work good. If i have to play an older game to test it out that is alright. Any suggestions?

For reference how much does live streaming hurt frames per second? If im getting say 90 fps without recording how many should i expect while recording?

Use Playclaw. It's just like Fraps except a LOT less laggier, records in similar ways and does not cap your frame rate @ your recording frame rate.

Fraps doesn't do this as soon as you tick ; lock frame rate.

For streaming you're going to need a better CPU... People use podcaster, flash media encoder, xsplit. People who stream high quality on the internet tend to have at least quad cores.
