Even with Sandy Bridge completely out of the picture, as of today, Intel STILL has the best chip(s) on the market for the consumers...

Server side may be a different story, but in the desktop & laptop market, till AMD pulls out the rabbit out of their hat, they are still currently behind Intel, and significantly too...

==============================

Brazo & Bulldozer are pretty much the bank for AMD, we will see if it goes boom or bust, and that's really all there is to say...

Intel cannot monopolize the CPU market, but they have been definitely dominating it for many years now...

I don't think it's a material issue, I think it's a Corporate management issue along with economic issues that are bringing this foreseeable future to reality..

Though if that did become an issue it would be all the more reason to raise prices, and you know they would love nothing more than to do so!

I disagree on your outlook. The economy is at a steady recovery with GDP expected to increase throughout this year. Product prices should remain stable, with utilities and fuel costs dropping, hopefully allowing room for us to have more disposable income.

Edit: added picture.
It's nice to see the changes, but are the significant enough?

I doubt we are headed for Deflation, if that's what you are trying to say, because many other products in the economy are going up in price, not down.

CPUs have always been over inflated in price....

Question: How much more can it cost to make a Quad Core over a Dual Core CPU? (see my point?)

That may sound counter productive to my original post, but it's not...

I'm saying expect rising prices for many reasons...

Lowering cost to remain competitive is a whole different story...

I still do not see a price raise, well if amd gets eliminated by intel then yea probably prices will go up.

How much can it cost to make a i7 980x, not $1,000 dollars they charge that much because they can because Intel has a premium tax just like Apple does.

First of all, you should be very aware of how much the cost of one gallon of gas effects inflation, mainly because of delivery & shipping cost, if you don't remember the last big spike in gas prices and what it did to the economy maybe you should rethink your position...

$4 Gasoline In 2011: Oil's Surge Paves Way For Higher Prices At The Pump

Benchmark oil for February delivery rose $1.54 on Friday to end the year at $91.38 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. It reached $92.06 earlier in the day, the highest since Oct. 6, 2008. Nationwide gasoline pump prices now average $3.072 per gallon.
Very real...

Think about the trillions of dollars the government is printing, the Federal Reserve Banking is buying hundreds of billions of dollars in US Gov. Bonds DAILY, come on, we know what printing more money does, and it's NOT a good thing...

$4 Gasoline In 2011: Oil's Surge Paves Way For Higher Prices At The Pump

Very real...
You know I actually did read that $4 article last month. It's not a surprise to me but I don't want to go into politics to discuss why. Case in point:

Quote:
Excluding BP PLC, the four other major investor-owned oil companies posted combined profits of $59.7 billion in the first nine months of the year, a 49 percent increase from the year before.
It's not quite the shortage of fuel that is causing increased prices; these companies are just being ridiculously money-hungry. Our fuel companies KNOW that we don't have a choice. We all absolutely have to fill our cars for our daily commute, so whatever the price is, we have to pay it, and I feel that is a huge influence on the prices constantly increasing. That, and (down here) the gas tax is also ridiculous and there is no reason for it to be so ridiculous other than to feed these fools.
