Sound issue, so sad...

post #1 of 11

So my new HD 280's just came in after assuming only my left headphone and mic stopped working because of my Steelseries h5 v2's but now I realize it was something other than my old headset. Not sure exactly where to start with troubleshooting but what to do...

So the computer is only outputting one channel in the L + R?

Is the cable definitely in the right slot?

Check your audio drivers to see if they have a playback monitor for individual channels. If it doesn't show audio coming out of the left channel, there's an issue with the way you're assigning your speaker profiles. If the monitor shows audio coming out of both the left and right channels I'd try reinstalling your audio drivers, as you've already indicated that the headphones aren't your issue. If this doesn't work, I'd say it's a hardware issue.

This is the playback monitor I'm talking about;

Where can I see that playback monitor? I have looked for something like that. The cable is for sure plugged in the right slot. Also only audio is coming out of the left channel to answer your question. Thanks for the reply, helping me find that play monitor would be appreciated. : )

Also I re installed audio drivers, no luck.

The playback monitor pictured is part of the X-Fi driver software, if you're using onboard sound or something else other than an X-Fi, you won't have it.

First of all, try both pairs of headphones with another source such as your TV or iPod etc just so you have 100% ruled out that it is the headphones at fault.

Also just got my new mic in the mail and also has the same problem as my old mic and headset which is when I plug it in and look at recording devices in Windows it switches between plugged in and not plugged in or thinks it is a different microphone and very rapidly switches back and forth also my sound stops working with my mic plugged in.

Here are screen shots for whatever reason in case they are needed,

Update ~ I got both headphones to work and play sound, not permanently because my headphone jack in front works sometimes and the jack in the back works half the time also. Sometimes the right headphone works and sometimes it doesn't. The mic being plugged in sometimes make the headphones stop working, also there is a annoying whine in the right side. Any help? A sound card would fix my problem right?

More than likely yes. I would pick up an Asus Xonar. Probably best bang for buck sound card. The whine could just be feedback. Go into levels and see how much the mic boost is up to. Try backing it down a bit to get rid of the whine see if that helps. GL.

Thanks man, I can't change through Windows unless it detects mic is plugged in which since my last post it doesn't but when I get my sound card ill try that if its still there.
