Help! "Bootmgr is missing" & "a disk read error has occured" windows 7

Thread Starter
Hey,

So I recently started getting this problem with windows 7 64 bit. It'll pop up "Bootmgr is missing" before loading windows. So I restart it a few times and I'll get it to load windows and run. I eventually bought a new hard drive a month ago and clean installed windows 7 64 bit on it. I've been getting the same error on it, "Bootmgr is missing" and also am getting "a disk read error has occurred". I've tried running the repair things in command console from the windows cd and everything, but this error just keeps randomly happening. Anyone know what it is that may be causing this problem? I have my computer overclocked and it has worked fine for 2 years until recently.

Could it possibly be the motherboard that is going bad?

Thanks a bunch,
Matt

Make sure that your hard drive is the first drive in the drive order. Not just the boot order. Also you might want to try a different sata cable.

I made sure it was in the right drive order in the bios. It's also a brand new hdd, and the same error is occurring. So this problem has occurred on two separate hdd's. I also bought a new Sata cable for it and no change, I've tried different sata port's to.

Well I would suspect the sata cable but it could even be the sata port itself.

Boot from the disc, get into CMD, run the following commands:
fixboot
fixmbr
chkdsk /r

In case it's caused by malware, you might also want to try a system restore, but those three commands should do the trick.
