Help! "Bootmgr is missing" & "a disk read error has occured" windows 7 - Page 2

I had that error completely randomly a few weekends ago on my SSD, that worked flawlessly for an entire year. Had to format, and it happened again the weekend after. I've since sent it off for RMA.

I have this bad inkling that it wasn't the SSD now... maybe 2011 is cursed? tongue.gif Let me know if you find a fix.

External media suggests to me that the disc is damaged, but it might be worth a try running sfc /scannow from the recovery console. Bad Patch can refer to corrupted system files.

Honestly, unless you've got mission critical data, you might save yourself time by reinstalling.

hmm, I tried the sfc /scannow and it said to restart. When I restarted it just said Bootmgr is corrupt. So now i'm going to try to run it again

I'm doing something wrong. I type sfc /scannow. It says: "Beginning system scan. This process will take some time. There is a system repair pending which requires reboot to complete. Restart windows and run sfc again."

So I restart my computer and it just normally loads up windows to the login screen. I restarted again and typed sfc /scannow again and was given the same msg so I rebooted and booted from dvd drive. So I typed it again and it gave me the same phrase. What am I doing wrong lol?

Don't run the system repair from the disc. You can skip past that by choosing the advanced recovery options.
Also, you could try a system restore.

Alright I got sfc /scannow to run in windows. It's currently going, I'll let you know what results I get.

damn, it said "windows resource protection did not find any integrity violations."

You can try in repair on the os. As that will repair/fix the issues and leave windows the way it was.

In that case, try a system restore.
Something else to look into now would be the manufacturer of the hard drive. If this is your Sig Rig, Wester Digital has a drive diagnostics tool here: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=612&lang=en
If a system restore doesn't help, run the diagnostics to see if the hard drive itself is faulty.
If that doesn't return anything useful, I'd suggest cutting your losses and reinstalling Windows. If the problem persists after that, then there is a real possibility of it being your hard drive.
