help me find a proper video card

hey guys!

I'm fixing a computer here it's a Compaq Presario SR5152NX

one of the kids of the owner ripped off the onboard vga connector (don't ask me how I have no clue haha )

She wanted me to fix an older computer but out of curiosity I tried one of my gtx480 card in the pcie16 slot and It worked!

So I tell her, I can get you a video card and it should work fine!

Sadly, it doesn't.. I tried first with an nvidia EN210 to find that it simply doesn't display anything at all.. So I tried clearing cmos.. no success..

So I try with my card again and it works.. Since it's not the same psu for the system (no pcie power cables) I tried again with my own psu.. Still no go..

Go back to the store, he tries it since I thought it was DOA.. it works in his system.. So he trades it for a radeon hd 5450... that still does the same thing as the nvidia card

SO, right now the store is closed but I was thinking about trying the cheapest card that requires additionnal power with pcie cables..

the mobo is an asus m2n68-la and I've just updated the bios but it still doesn't work.. The only option I have in the bios concerning pcie video card is an option to set it to pcie16, pcie1, pcie or onboard.. gtx boots on either setting but not the two cards I've tried

can you guys help? oh and sorry for the long post

tl;dr
compaq pc has a broken vga port
gtx480 works in pcie16 slot
nvidia en210 and ati hd5450 don't
???????
profit?

Cheapest I could find would be something like a 4830 - $60 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814131381

although your probably better off getting a cheap AM2 motherboard such as: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157204 $40
