To be fair while CA prices are high, it's better than rolling blackouts no?

Yeah, I revoked my post because I got the feeling that households in the US on average outuse that number by a large margin. And lo and behold I was right, that the average household uses 920 kWh per month. I still think it's fair to pay more if you use more though.

EDIT: I think I grossly underestimated his usage as well.

baseline should be ~626kWh for Winter, so 300% of baseline would be ~1875kWH. He was being billed above 300% for a while, so he probably used 2-3k kWh, which is why I say that $200 for that isn't really an "outrageous" price.

hmmmmmmmmmmm

might have to rethink this whole folding thing, LOL

edit:

the prices here are just outrageous and we're on a tier system

realized i'm now in the ~300% of baseline range, which bumped the cost to ~$.40 from ~$.20

hope no one has second thoughts about folding because of me, just be aware of your usage/cost so there's no surprises
Power cost here in washington is cheap

only 0.075per KWH (NO tier based)

about $25-$50 per month(depending how many days go below 15F)

Average indoor temp is 50F that is fine for me

I am not going to fold though.

A jump in your power bill should be expected, and one month is not enough of an examp[le to say that it was only folding. You can have my bill...

punker, are you PSE (Puget Sound Energy) in Spokane?

There's baseline and overage with PSE (here in Redmond). When I was rockin' the 16 GX2 farm during the summer powered by 2 dedicated 20A circuits, my power bill was definitely something to behold. Luckily we don't use AC. I was also on the "budget" plan so I was able to spread the monumental power bills over the course of the year. It was still expensive even spread over 6 months.

System idles at 244w

bigadv only folding = 360w, an increase of 116w over idle and produces 33kppd

PPD/Watt = 91

bigadv w/ 1 gtx460 and smp -7 flag = 480w, increase of 236w over idle and produces 38.7kppd

PPD/Watt = 80.7

bigadv w/ 2 gtx460 and smp -7 flag = 600w, increase of 356w over idle and produces 50.4kppd

To add to this my 970 @ 4.3 bigadv only folding = 400w, an increase of 156w over idle and produces 63kppd

PPD/Watt = 157.5

Koven let us know what your 2600k does when you get your kill-a-watt

I would say he is not on PSE because PSE is at least 3 step tiered, I am just a little North of you. I do not know if it goes any higher than 3 steps but I am usually in the 3rd tiere. My avg electric bill is $250 a month about $175.00 of that is from running my 4 i7's. If I run my Graphics cards it goes up to $350.00
