My GTX 570 is a pain in the butt! - Page 2

Totally normal. You have to clock your CPU higher but then again don't expect the same results. i7 @ 4GHz+ is a monster.

There is nothing wrong with your GTX 570. There's something wrong with what's in your motherboard socket.

As has been said multiple times an i7 makes a world of difference. Especially at 4ghz.

I was about to get an AMD for my build too. Until I saw that for an extra 40 bucks I could get an i7-950.

I couldn't be happier.

I'd have to agree with the fact an i7 helps in better FPS than a Phenom II. When I switched my GTX 260 from my Phenom II set up into my Xeon (i7) set up. I noticed some differences. I hadn't even overclocked the Xeon yet at that point.

I would assume it would be the same with a 570 too.

For the four benchmarks used in the OP, I only have Metro 2033 installed in my system and so I ran it for comparison.

I tried as close to the TechPowerUp's settings as possible (except they have 0xAA stated on top of the table but there is no such option in the benchmark and so I used AAA).

My results:
1) i7 at 3.2GHz
Ave=52
Min=20

2) i7 at 4GHz
Ave=53
Min=22

Physx was done by my GTX570 (which is slightly overclocked to 780).

So, TPU's 23(min) is just about the same as mine but their 38 (ave) is way lower than my 53. And I do not think my slight overclocking can contribute such a big gain.

I see the OP is using the stock AMD cooler and so I presume there is no overclocking of the CPU? Perhaps it is good to do so to get more out of a higher end graphics card. And remember to get an aftermarket cooler.

i7's @ 4ghz slap Phenom II's.
post #16 of 19
In addition to windfire's post, remember that the i7 is faster than the Phenom II clock by clock. Even with your Phenom at 4.0GHz, you still won't be able to obtain the same frames achieved in the test bench.

Ran these settings and got roughly 55 average.

Once again, ~30 FPS average.

One this I scored 19303 marks... About 2000 below the expected...

This is the case for most benchmarks I run. The card does not preform as advertised and I can not imagine my Phenom II X4 955 being that bad of a bottleneck. The card is passed return date so I would have to resale and take a loss if the thing is that bad. When it came out many reviewers called it the best bang for buck. Now I am hearing about these things dying and specifically mine not preforming up to par. What the eff is the issue?!

#1 ... online benchmarks are for comparing a bunch of cards against EACH OTHER, on the exact same rig. They don't always tell you the details of the tests they ran, either. You should not assume that what they show is what you'll get 'at home'. That's not what they're for.

But looking at specifics here:
Dirt 2: With FPS that high, the CPU could well be bottlenecking. Does it matter at 91FPS?

BFBC2: There's no benchmark, so how can you be sure you're comparing apples/apples? Also, this game likes a lot of CPU power, so a BN is not unthinkable.

Metro: Are you SURE you ran the same settings, and that you're running the same test as they did? Bear in mind that in 'High' mode, it looks like you're setting AAA but it's actually 0xAA, as AAA mode only works in VH.

This is the one test of this bunch where I would say fairly unequivocally that the CPU should not matter much, if at alll. But actually Windfire's results suggest that CPU *could* be involved a tiny bit, based on the increases he got from OC'ing the proc ... still, it's the least CPU-dependent test scenario of these four, I'm certain.

Vantage: So you're saying your GPU score is off by about 10%? In regular performance mode, you could well be getting a bit of a BN here as well. And if you're comparing total P-score you definitely will since CPU tests are directly involved in that score.

I'd try to compare GPU scores on like Vantage High, or 3dMark11, with others on the ORB ... CPU won't matter on those tests for sure. Metro I think you haven't matched settings properly, or just aren't running the same test as HC did.

Yeah Phenoms Drag down graphics cards in Many benchmarks... Its really crappy but that what you get for the money. looking back i wish i got an i5 build, but i will wait for the next Sandy's then upgrade. 22nm sounds EPIC!

i´m pretty sure it´s because your cpu, you should try overclock it at least at 3.8ghz

bad company and metro are really cpu dependent..

in my case my scores and fps are pretty similar than those benchies you post
