New Water Cooling Build. Case Suggestions.

Thread Starter
Hey there,

I am going to be building a new liquid-cooled PC and I need some suggestions on a case. Also, if you have any recommendations on alternatives for the hardware I have listed, please let me know.

So, the system is as follows:

SYSTEM COMPONENTS

New Intel Sandy Bridge 2600K, and appropriate motherboard. (After fix)
8GB Corsair Dominator 1600MHZ Ram
Intel 160GB Solid State Drive
Western Digital 2TB Caviar Black
Two Nvidia GTX 580's in SLI
Corsair AX1200 or PC Power and Cooling Turbo Cool (Could use some recommendations here)

WATER COOLING COMPONENTS

XSPC RX360 for Graphics Cards
XSPC RX120 for CPU
Not sure on Waterblocks, thinking EK?
Pump Recommendations Please
Noiseblocker PWM 120MM Multi-Flex Silent Case Fans
XSPC Bay Reservoir

So, these are my ideas for the system. I'm looking for a case that could support all this internally with minimal or no modding. I am looking to maintain a silent, but effective system. All answers or recommendations for a case and/or hardware are appreciated.

Note: I will be overclocking the CPU.

I have the AX1200. It's a thing of beauty. Fully modular, sleeved, easy to work with. Also extremely overkill for my system (even if I had three 580s), which isn't far off from your intended system. I max at 800w while benchmarking w/unstable overclocks according to the Kill-A-Watt. Also have 7 AP-15 fans and two 355 pumps.

HX1000 or AX850 is good enough. I'd go with the AX series because it's fully modular.

Your loop is similar to mine (two GTX 580s, w/a RX360 and RX120), I couldn't recommend enough the Corsair 800D or 700D w/window panel extra purchase (if you care about that). It's the best case I've ever used. Very spacious and makes building your loop easier.

My loop is: Res -> 2 x pumps through EK dual-top -> 360 -> CPU -> 120 -> GPUs

MCP 355 pumps, EK Supreme HF Nickel/Acetal CPU block, I didn't install GPU blocks but went with HydroCopper 2 for the slick look and form factor (I put a NIC between the two GPUs). Never used Noiseblocker, but highly recommend Gentle Typhoon AP-15. Very quiet and lots of air.

Whether two pumps does anything for me beyond redundancy is debatable, but I'm satisfied with my temperatures.

Edit - one other thing. I hate 45-degree fittings. Flow may be better but they're a pain in the ass to work with. I'd stick with straights and only 45-degree in spacious areas where you're not needing complex tube routing.

TJ-07 Silverstone Case is an excellent Choice for water cooling. Much room at the bottom for Radiator.

I have the EK Supreme HF and the 580 Full covers from EK and they rock. If you have any spare cash the Backplates for the 580's give the cards a really nice look. I would use the AX850 because 1200 is a bit overpowered. For fans the Gentle Typhoon AP-15 is really nice with good flow and not too much noise. Easy to take apart and paint too My MCP655 has been working great and is also quite silent. Now the cool thing is that the MCP655 has a pump top also made by EK that combines a modular pump top and reservoir in one unit. Looks really nice and fits damn near anywhere. The 800D is a awesome case but pricey.

The TJ-07 is also a great case but also pricy. Also the 800D is on sale at the egg and I like the fact that the interior is the same sleek black as the exterior. The TJ-07 is black outside and plain aluminum inside which kinda requires painting. Choose paint carefully btw.

800D/HAFX/Silverstone are going to be your best options.

I personally would go 800D. Its sleek, sturdy, and has plenty of room.

i'm also looking at possibly getting a new case to support all this water stuff.

At this point I'm at

1) 800D
2) something from mountain mods
3) a 'normal' pc case and an external wall cabinet, custom rads everything

Hey, thanks guys for the quick replies. I expected the 800D to come up a bit. I did a client build with it once, but it was air cooled. (Kinda fail), It was real nice, I just wanted to know if it would work with the dual loop set up. Also, thanks for the info about power too, I would have gotten the AX1200, but now I'm seeing it might be overkill.

I think I will stick with EK due to what you guys are saying, and test out those AP-15 Gentle Typhoons.

A question about the TJ-07. I've seen numerous water cooling setups done with it, and I see that the main, big rad goes in the bottom where the HDD racks are. Where are the hard drives then relocated too? I've just always wondered.

Also, I see that one of you were using two pumps but wasn't sure how effective it was for that setup. If anyone could clarify this as to whether or not one pump will suffice, or be efficient, or should I get two?

Keep the suggestions coming, they are always helpful!

The main question I have is whether your wc rig will evolve and get more complex in the years to come. That will help you pick a great case that will last a long time. I'm only suggesting cases that are "made" for watercooling setups that need little to no modding for a truly great setup.

High end: (Mountain Mods) Ascension, U2UFO, Pinnacle 24 (Danger Den) Tower 29, Double Wide Tower (Little Devil) V8.

Mid range: (Corsair) 700D, 800D (Silverstone) TJ07 (Lian-li) P80 (Mountain Mods) H2GO

Low end: (Coolermaster) Haf series cases (not really recommended, but really as cheap as it gets for an ok wc case)

Please take into consideration that Mountain mods cases require tons of addons and accessories to finish the case. In many situations costing up to over half of the original cost of the case.

HDDs are relocated to the 5.25 bays in the TJ07
