Q6600 Motherboard overclock wattage question

I'm overclocking my Q6600 - G0, and I have a question about the wattage design of the motherboard.

Quick facts:
►I'm using an Intel DP35DP, so there are no on board settings for overclocking. I'm doing everything with SetFSB.
►The board does support 1333 FSB, the manual screenshot is somewhat dated.
►The board specs say max wattage draw of 105 watts.
►At this point in time, I don't want to invest anymore in socket 775.

I've had it at 3.1 GHZ on stock voltage, Prime small FFT stable for 2 hours, and stopped it because of my concern I'm mentioning here.

This chip appears to be awesome to hit those speeds on this crap board at stock volts, it's almost a shame to have it on this motherboard.. anyways...

My concern is longevity of the motherboard, yes I realize overclocking wears stuff out faster, however using the formula of: OC Wattage = TDP * ( OC MHz / Stock MHz) * ( OC Vcore / Stock Vcore )^2

I come up with a wattage draw of 123, which is well over the 105 the board is specced for.

Anybody have any input on this. Am I needlessly worrying, or is my concern about way out of spec power draw and significant reduction in component longevity founded?

Overclocking typically pushes the hardware harder than it should but I can tell you that it is a recommendation to not exceed 105w TDP.. They also recommend you to not overclock lol. You are needlessly worrying. You will be fine at that setting. You can go further if you wanted to. IMO the longevity will not be affected much. Unless you are trying to make it last as long as you possibly can just for the sake of it then it will lower the lifespan by a small margin. It just depends on the caps etc on the board. Are they long life.. Like I said, It will be fine IMO

Yeah, I understand that, however motherboards from Asus, Gigabyte, etc. are designed with cooling on the power components specifically so they can handle the increased wattage of an overclocked computer.

The thing is my board has no cooling on any of the power components, so I'm approaching it with caution.

As of right until I get more information I have it set to 2.65 GHz, which is 105 watts draw, max spec on the board. Looking for additional feedback.

It has nothing to do with Power draw of CPU as much it has to the fact that you're running a low end mobo which has 3 Phase Power delivery for CPU (old school with old caps and coils) and no cooling on it too..

My mobo supports CPU's up to 136W (QX9770) but I run my Q9550 @ 3.9GHz with no problems at all and it's using over 160W at hat speed..

But my mobo has 8 Phase PWM and Quality built one (solid state caps, Ferrite chokes,Low noise Mosfets etc)..

So in short: I wouldn't recommend OCing any kind of CPU on that board (and you're running a 65nm Quad) as you're really in danger of blowing your mobos VRM's/caps..

Yeah, I had that suspicion when I saw no cooling on the power components, and traces on the motherboard for more power phase components, but they weren't in place.
