Thread Starter
well i am pretty much knoleagable about amd and not intel
=(
so i know i want a i7980x (lga 1366) with would be the 1k
and for the other 1k i need the rest of the computer....

Gpu: prefer 6970 (probably cant afford it, might go with 6870 or 5870)
Hdd: would like a 1tb x2
SSD: any 40gb
PSU: 700w
Mobo: dont know what the best for i7
Ram: ram that is at max fsb of mobo and and a min of 16gb
Case: already chose one for $120
cooling is already chosen: $234

so that leaves about $650 for what i have left like i said i honestly dont know which ram/mobo i should get that best fits for i7

For the GPU just get a 6950 and unlock it to a 6970, and you will not be able to get 16gb of ram, a gpu, PSU, 2x 1TB HDD, 40gb SSD, mobo for $650ish

EDIT:you cant really get 16gb of ram on 1366 socket

This, the i7 2600k is an excellent processor. There is absolutely no reason to blow 1.1-1.5 grand on technology that's going to be replaced later this year. Just get sandy bridge or wait and upgrade to Ivy Bridge. You rig will be way more futureproofed this way. Things you can get with the extra 600 or so you save with Sandy are a GTX 580, more ram, SSD, good looking case, case fans, gaming accessories, games, bigger screen.

Basically it's 1300$ vs 500$ for a marginal difference. I agree with the others and would go for the i7 2600K.

As has been said, I would recommend go SB. This also is dependant on what you will be doing with the system.

Processor i7 2600k - $300
HDD - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152185 $65 (why 2x?? stripe or mirror) if mirror get 3x and go RAID 5 (If 3x $195)
SSD - 64GB SATA3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820233153 $165
PSU - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817207003 $130
RAM - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231455 $140 for 8GB ($280 for 16GB, heavy multitasking or other RAM intensive apps)
mobo - I have had both Asus and Gigabyte. Seems Gigabyte gives better quality nowadays. If you can find a GA-P67A-UD5 $265 or UD7 $350 (UD7 if u want 3 way SLI/Xfire, need 4 SATA III 6Gb connections and dual NICs)
GPU - GTX 570 over 6970 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130593 $350
Case you said u alrdy have $120
Cooling you said you have $234

Total $1984, will trade blows with the i7 980x. This comes in under budget for an entire build with 8GB RAM Kit. 16GB RAM with UD5 $2039, 16GB RAM with UD7 $2124.
