[Finished] System building $5 reward - Page 5

xd strikes again!
Athlon II x2 250 + free Biostar A780L3G - $58 [Microcenter] (add to cart)
Kingston HyperX Blu 1600 CL9 memory - $50, $35 AR [Newegg]
Coolermaster Elite 331 + Coolermaster 350W PSU - $30
BFG 8400GS - $12 shpped (I recommend the 8400GS addon over the integrated graphics because it is fully HD capable, can GPU-accelerate all HD and Adobe Flash/YouTube, and overclocks well too) [Cowboom] - it might be able to support his light gaming too
Windows 7 Home Premium - $95 or $100, $90 AR [combo deal loopholes, Newegg]
Seagate 7200.12 500GB - $38 after promo code(Excellent drive, pretty fast, I have two of these) [Newegg]
LITE-ON 24X DVD drive - $16 shipped after promo code [Newegg]
Keyboard/mouse - $20
21.5" 1080p monitor - $115

Total cost before rebates: $434
After tax (assuming everything's taxed): $477.40

Some room for shipping there

Every single broken Emachines I have come across (quite a few) has a shoddy PSU. Most of the time the PSU blows and takes most of the system with it within 3 years.

It is NEVER worth it to buy store bought IMO if you know how to build. After having taken apart hundreds of systems, I can confidently say that NO manufacturer uses quality parts compared to what you can buy aftermarket. The best parts I've seen are Delta PSUs pulled out of various HPs and Dells, and to even call those parts good is a joke.

Man, that sucks... I guess 760G isn't that bad of a deal, but it's missing Flash 10 acceleration and some other acceleration for video. Then again, same with 6150.

I know how you can get to an Athlon II x4 now that you can't get that 8400GS. All you have to do:
Spend $10 less on Keyboard/mouse
Spend $10 less on RAM (note: OCZ memory, looks a bit ugly)
Upgrade to x4 640 + Biostar A780L3G for $96
Total cost is just under $500
