o_0 for one month? Are you sure that this isn't for multiple months? What was the usually bill? If it's a lot less there is no way your new computer boosted it that much!

Cause even the folders do not hit that much with big farms.
I pay their bills for them since they are older now and their children should take care of these things lol

its simply because the house is very open and big.

People in Australia get stung a heap for power, it would be even worse in Newzealand.

What you guys from America seem to forget is that the population of the US is many times larger than that of AU and NZ.
The power companies would be able to offer power at a cheaper rate due to sheer mas of people using it. which as we all know the larger the quantity sold the cheaper it gets.

But the chances are it could be a quarterly bill.

Also Australia's land mas of (5,751,000 sq mi) compared to America (3,794,066 sq mi) we have a population of (22,555,990) compared to America's (312,027,000) so that is 13.8 people to our one. Plus there would be a lot of competition between power companies.

So in short power companies as a whole in the US collect 13x as much money per month than in Australia so they can afford to offer it cheaper. the thing that blows me away is you guys have 50 states and we have 8, I am just wondering is there any states that you could throw a rock over?

Thread Starter
It is ~$1200 definitely. Forgot to mention our normal bill is like $500-700 NZD which is still quite high, but apparently normal for a house of our size.

Now normally, I'd blame this on the pool heater or the air conditioning, but it seems this isn't the case. Thanks for the input guys though, my dad is getting around a specialist to check out what's chewing the power. I'm really hoping it's not my PC alone adding a few hundred bucks onto the power bill, otherwise my hours go bye bye..

Your rig could not do that.
Trust me.

yeah the first time we got a $1000+ bill we decided we needed to go greener.

all LED or CFL lights inside... more power efficient appliances and less usage of the AC/Heater, better insulation on windows and doors etc...

its down to around $500 now so not as bad as it once was but still terrible. my apartment is about $80 a month.

get a killawatt, here in the USA they cost $15-20 USD. you plug it into the wall, and then plug your power supply cord into it and it tells you what you're pulling. you can easily find out this way and it would be a lot cheaper than hiring a specialist. the only problem i see, is if you guys in australia use a different type of outlet then the one the killawatt is using.

my opinion is that it is not your computer. there is simply some variable that your family is not considering. ex/ your sister used X appliance a lot more (and knows it) and isn't saying anything. or your sister used X appliance more periodically in intervals, so that it's not in her conscience that she used it that much, when in reality she did. or, you used your computer a lot more without knowing it. my point is, there is some other variable that you guys are not factoring in--it is not your computer if it is run just 5 hours a day.
