Questions for Phantom owners

Thread Starter
I'm getting tired of how loud my A1200 is, and how dreadful it is to clean out the filters (24 bay screws + 4 for the panels? Seriously?)... When I move out of the dorms after this semester, I'm planning on grabbing a new case; the Phantom definitely caught my eye. This is more of a discussion thread, I suppose.

How is the stock airflow? Is anyone adding extra cooling? I looked at a review that showed the temperature deltas in their situation as both better and worse than the A1200 (which is understandable consider the sheer airflow). I wouldn't mind ordering one or two of their 200mm fans, maybe the 140mm for the front.

How are the acoustics? Depending on the sound levels, I'll either put it on the right edge of my desk next to my monitor/speakers, or on the floor. Has adding any of their fans noticeably increased sound?

This is slightly off topic, but are there any upcoming sub-$200 anyone is looking forward to? I've obviously got plenty of time until I go through with a new case. Out of current offerings, what other competitive options should I be considering?

Go!

The 200mm fans get loud...esp for their size but the fan controller/s get rid of that. I had basically all of my fans intake except the top two and I could actually feel COLD air coming out.

I have every fan mount on the case installed along with four more 120's on my rad. The only thing that makes noise in my case is the XSPC pump/res which is getting a replacement via XSPC <awesome customer service I might add>. I have a sentry two controlling my rad fans and at 100% I can barely notice the sound. As far as the case fans go they are silent. All in all I would highly recommend this case. Not only does it function well, its pretty damn sweet looking.

Stock fans are great IMO and definitely consider a 140mm for intake. From my prospective the fans aren't even that loud not even on max but if you must you can turn them down via fan controller. As for additional fans I've heard more complains than praises over the 200mm NZXT has for sale and I've heard YOU MUST BUY NZXT 200mm since they're actually 192mm and only that fits in the case.

The stock cooling is actually pretty quiet, considering the 200mm fans. There is an integrated fan controller so you can turn it down to completely silent anyways.

It's a great case, although if you hate dust filters, it may be a pain getting rid of the ones for the two 120 mm fans...

Thanks everyone for the replies. The A1200 is fantastic for cooling, but the open design and the noise really got to me when non-intensive tasks. I'm hoping the Phantom treats me better (if I decide to go for it); I realized I'm way pickier than I had originally thought.

How are they implemented? The A1200 is just a HUGE pain since the three bays need to be taken out to clean the filters, and each bay has eight screws It didn't bother me back at my mom's impeccably clean home when I would clean maybe once every couple months. Here at college? Every two weeks...

It's not so bad, the dust filters are beneath the fans themselves which you'll have to remove first. If you don't need a lot space for your parts the Antec 300 illusion seems like a fantastic choice with easily removable dust filters but of course it's a mid tower.

So the fans have to be removed to access the filters? Bummer. From what I see online, the front fan slot doesn't have a filter, which I'm guessing is available elsewhere? It's somewhat dumb that it doesn't by default.

I had read to that bit about the 300 twice. One, I just wouldn't by a case like that to begin with; I'm used to larger workspaces and good airflow. Plus, I doubt I'll be buying another Antec case, unless it's one of their Pxxx series, or possible future products that end up not annoying me

Well chances are that you won't clean your dust filter that often. You could always buy your own dust filters you know. I would personally gladly pay $40 more if NZXT could fill up all the fan slots and with dust filters. Speaking of $40 more there's also this case and from what I've seen and heard it works wonders, so another option for you
