Asus G73 VSOD(vertical screen of death)

Thread Starter
Well, several months ago my dog stepped on my laptop breaking the screen, so I RMA'd and Asus replaced the screen for a nominal fee. Now I am back out in afghanistan and all my buddies were gathered around watching some sick footage off my helmet cam on my laptop when all of a sudden, vertical lines began appearing on approx 1/3 of the screen. The laptop has been handled carefully since I had it back from the factory and when the lines appeared all we were doing was watching the screen. I figured it was a cable connection issue so I attempted to visualize the connections. After about 30 minutes of carefully attempting to take it apart, i figured I would wait and ask my question so I put it back together. When i turned it on again, the lines were gone and after about 5 min they reappeared so now I ask, ***? Any ideas.

1. we were just sitting around watching when the lines starting flashing and became solid.
2. I airdust the **** out my intakes and exhausts
3. I handled my laptop carefully
4. After several restarts, no change until I took everything apart
5. After putting everything together, restarted and eveything worked for only 5 min.

Same thing happened to my mac, had to replace the screen. Ended up costing $800 but a little sweet talk with one of the female representatives on the phone and I was good to go, no charge!!!!

Sounds like the inverter board is fried, could possibly be the GPU, though I doubt it.
