120hz - 'Corruption' help! Major annoyance!! - Page 2

Stargate, I shall definitely measure my frame rate using Fraps (but I would have thought that the frame rate would be very high when staring at my windows desktop).

I do find it difficult to believe that the 120hz screens need a 120fps input to prevent artifacting; simply because I bet there are thousands of people who own this screen who aren't achieving 120fps in games.

The ONLY cable that will work is a DUAL LINK DVI cable. It has all the pins populated.

HDMI and standard DVI will only carry 60hz or a tad more due to bandwidth restrictions. Are you using the dual link cable that came with the monitor ?

Yes I am. I'm trying to find another cable to try.

I think I'll also remove my gfx, clean drivers, and re-fit it in another PCI-e slot. I'm out of ideas!

It's just a possibility. I know 60Hz screens don't need 60fps to work properly, but I don't know how your monitor deals with things when you put it in 120Hz mode. I highly doubt that this would have been overlooked during design of the monitor, but it could be something faulty in the monitor causing it to display artifacts.

Fraps will not give you measurements for Windows desktop; I did not realize that the issue was occuring with Windows without having played a game. I assumed it was occuring during games and continued when doing other things. If the cable is replaced and it still occurs, I would think the monitor is the issue.

gotta be the cable.
but that doesnt make sense if that is the cable that came with it.

hdmi cables go bad very very often tho. My friend got one with his 360 and it didn't work right out of the box lol

And dvi is basically the same, just with a different connector and no audio so it very well could just be a faulty cable.

The patterns (when they are present, and they're not always) will move up and down as I scroll the page vertically. Makes me think that it can't be the actual panel itself.

I'm pretty sure it's the cable that came with the screen, it's a DVI-D Dual Link regardless - and you'd expect them to all be the same. I'll try to borrow another cable, but if that doesn't help I think I'm stuck trying to get a replacement from samsung!

That is different than I pictured what you were talking about. From the looks of it, I would guess it is the panel. If you have a different cable handy, though, I would try that first before bothering with an RMA.
