Finally had my screen replaced by the shambolic company that deal with monitor repairs/replacements for Samsung in the UK, and the problem is no longer there. So it looks like it was simply a dodgy screen.

PLEASE do not get me started! It took me SIX MONTHS to get a replacement from Samsung when I had an issue, and literally almost 200 calls to them (no joke, I kept a log). I even wrote a letter to their head office in Korea, prompting the director of Samsung UK to call me directly!
